RAMSEY SOFTBALL TEAM
COMPETES IN
NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Members of Ramsey's 1990 Sport Shack Team include coaches Doug Lynch,
Gary Lund and Perry Jung; players Lori Schommer, Krish Jung, Kathy Lund,
Barb Lynch, Stephanie Richards, Beth Prior, Kelle Sauer, Nicole Anderson,
Amanda Sieloff, Heather Rung. Bridgette Mitchell, Chris Whaley, Kara
Hubley. Pictured above are the team members that participated in the NSA
National Tournament in North and South Carolina.

After finishing the 1989 season with an overall record of 46
and 4, which included an ASA State Championship, A USSSA
State Championship, a Star of the North State Championship
and the team's third consecutive playoff championship in the
City of Ramsey, the 1990 Sport Shack team realized moving
up to the senior high level would be more challenging and cer-
tainly more difficult to repeat the 1989 accomplishments.

The 1990 Sport Shack team from Ramsey enter.ed two leagu~s
this year, the 18 and under Wednesday night league In
Champlin" A" Division and the Metro League for ages 16 and
under. The Sport Shack team completed the season in the
Metrol League with a 9 and 1 record and 1st Place League
Champs.

The Sport Shack team participated in 3 State tournaments. The
first was the National Softball Association tournament held in
St. Cloud in which Sport Shack took the championship. The
second was the USSSA 18 and under tournament held in
Fridley. In a 9 to 6 battle, Sport Shack lost to White Bear Lake
but not without holding them to under 10 runs in a tournament
where they were averaging 20 runs per game. The third was
a ASA tournament in Duluth in which Sport Shack took
Consolation Championship.

The highlight of this season for the Sport Shack team was
participating in the Charlotte Observer National Softball
Association Youth Girls World Series Tournament. It was held
July 27-29 in Charlotte, North Carolina and Rock H.ill, ~outh
Carolina. There were a total of 148 teams competing In the
tournament; of those, 40 teams were present in the 16 and
under age bracket representing 14 states. Of the 148 teams,
Ramsey's Sport Shack team was the one that travelled the
furthest to compete in the tournament. Sport Shack defeated
the defending runner up from the 1989 NSA National Tour 6
to 1; went on to defeat the State champions from Maryland
7 to 5. Sport Shack, then one of the 8 remaining undefeated
teams, lost 5 to 0 to the Georgia Panthers, a past national
champion. The loss put the Sport Shack team in the losers
bracket where they lost 15-0 to the Georgia Bandits. Sports
Shack finished the 1990 NSA National Tournament in 10th
place in the Nation. CONGRATULATIONS, GIRLS.

At this time, the 1990 Ramsey team sponsored by Anoka Sport
Shack would like to thank everyone responsible for helping with
the organizing and donation of prizes, money and time which
helped fund the trip to North Carolina for the National Softball
Tournament. It was a trip that the girls will remember for a very
long time and they appreciate all the help they received from
Ramsey and Anoka residents and businesses and the Ramsey
Youth Athletic Association.
MEDIATION SERVICES

All relationships - whether among friends, family, business
colleagues, or governments - encounter problems at one
time or another. Whether or not a relationship is successful
depends more on how we deal with the inevitable problems
than on the problems themselves.

MEDIATION SERVICES is a non-profit organization offering a
means of addressing problems and working toward resolution
and reconciliation. Parties are assisted to resolve problems by
a third party, neutral facilitator - a mediator. Problems are
not solved by the mediator, but rather by the parties working
together.

Techniques used by mediators in helping parties to focus on
basic elements of a good working relationship are:
1. rationality - balancing emotions with reason;
2. understanding - learning how the other side sees things;
3. reliability and trustworthiness;
4. persuasion - not coercion - problem solving as "partners";
5. acceptance -learning how to deal seriously with those with
whom we differ; and
6. resolution - putting it all together so that it fits and is
acceptable to all parties.

Differences exist in every relationship, and the process of
dealing with those differences is the key to establishing and
maintaining a good relationship. Let MEDIATION SERVICES
help you to resolve the differences. For further information,
call Ann Wallerstedt at 755-5300.
