I ANOKA COUNTY 4-H MEMBERS RECEIVE TOP HONORS AT THE STATE FAIR i I II To many people, the Minnesota State Fair signals the end of summer and time to go back to school. To 137 4-H members from Anoka County, the State Fair brings to mind a variety of exciting memories of their participation in 4-H activities at this year's fair. Those activities include participating with an ex- hibit, demonstration or in a performance. Pat Mor- reim, County Extension Agent stated that Anoka County was well represented at this year's State Fair and that 4-H members did extremely well in all the areas they participated in. 4-H members who ex- hibited or demonstrated were conference judged and awarded a ribbon for their efforts. Ribbon placings include purple, blue, red and white. A very small percentage of 4-Her's are awarded the purple rib- bon, which is the highest honor a 4-H member can receive in the Exhibit Building at the State Fair. A purple ribbon was awarded to Melinda Bloom- field of the Ramsey Cheerful Chuggers for food preservation. A blue ribbon was awarded to Jodi Peterson of the Cheerful Chuggers for Food Revue. State Fair 1990 has been a special one for many Anoka County 4-H members who returned to the county with new ideas, new friends and some very special memories. I I OPEN HOUSE 1990 HELD AT RAMSEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Ramsey Elementary's teachers and the PTA held an open house for the community on Thursday, September 20, 1990. The event was presented in the format of an ice cream social. Parents, students and members of the community were invited to come spend the evening at school to meet Principal Paul Reifenberger, teachers and other members of the staff. Afterwards, students were welcome to give their parents a guided tour of the school and enjoy the ice cream that was provided by the Ramsey PT A. A SPECIAL THANKS FROM THE RAMSEY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT The Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at All-Brite Graphics (6320 Hwy. #10 N.W.) for donating their time, effort and printing costs to develop the Fire Department's emergency medical forms. RAMSEY SENIOR CITIZENS On a beautiful fall October 3rd, 36 people came to the Senior Center to enjoy the, as always, "good" potluck dinner. Winston Granger of the Senior Federation gave a very informative talk on Living Wills. Health care sheets were passed out. This document gives your health care provider or your designated proxy the power and guidance to make health care decisions according to your wishes when you are in a terminal condition and cannot do so yourself. Kathleen Sekhon, D.F.L. candidate for Represen- tative of District 50, also talked with us regarding her platform. Marge Faherty from the Anoka Community Action Program was present and passed out the 1991 Director of Programs and Services for Senior Citizens in Anoka County. She also told us that fuel assistance will be available next week so anyone needing this assistance should contact her. Curt and Blanche Titterud volunteered to be the nominating committee for our 1991 officers. At our next meeting on November 7th, we will play Penny Bingo or any other games of your choice, so bring your pennies or any other favorite game to next meeting. CITY-WIDE RECYCLING BEGINS The City of Ramsey proudly announces the start of the City-wide Recycling Program. The program will consist of twice monthly recycling pickups. The pickups will be on alternating Mondays for each.half of the City. The most commonly asked questions about the program are: Do I need to remove all of the labels from the various containers? Remove as many labels as possible but some labels will not come off, which is O.K. Do I have to flatten all of my containers? No, but this will reduce the needed space between pickups. Should I put my address on my recycling container? Yes, this will help your neighbors return the con- tainer should it blow away or be removed from your house. What should I do if my family produces more recyclables that fit in the container? Residents are not limited to recycling only what fits in the container. They may place extra materials in paper bags along side the container for recycling. Will the curbside recycling program reduce my refuse bill? The recycling program will only reduce your refuse bill if you are able to change your current service from 2 containers to 1 container or if you can share the one container service with your neighbor. Who will pay for the service? The Ramsey City Council has decided for the first 6 months the program will be funded from the Land- fill Tipping Fee. After this period the City Council will decide if the residents should be billed or the fun- ding should continue from the Landfill Tipping Fee Fund. When will my first pickup be? Pickups will start on October 15 and 22, depending upon the location of your home within the City of Ramsey. Please consult the map as to the date your service starts.
