F.C. # ~

Authorization to Hire Consultant for Aerial Topographical Photography
By: Brian E. Olson, Principal City Engineer

Background:

On March 25, 2003, Staff was authorized to send out a Request for Proposals for aerial topographical
information for the City of Ramsey. Interested firms will be submitting quotations for this work on Monday,
April 7, 2003. The quotations will be made available on Tuesday night.

Since elevation information is so critical in evaluating our storm sewer needs and instrumental in developing
a Storm Water Management Plan for the entire City, the Storm Drainage Utility would be used to fund this
request.

The Engineering Department has received some preliminary numbers for the cost of this work from two of
the reputable firms that offer this service. There appears to be two major costs associated with this work:
aerial information and ground control. Aerial topographical costs are estimated at $120,000.

We intend on using Hakanson Anderson to assist us in the ground control and surveying aspects of the
project. They have estimated the cost for this aspect of the project to be $32,850.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends Council make a motion passing the attached resolution authorizing the Engineering
Department to award the Request for Proposals to to supply the City of Ramsey with the
aerial topographical information as contained in the RFP.

Council Action:

Motion by City Council to pass the attached resolution authorizing the Engineering Department to hire
to supply the City of Ramsey with the aerial topographical information as contained in the
RFP.

REVIEWED BY.'
City Administrator Jim Norman
Director of Public Works Dean Kapler
