RAMSEY

IDENT

RE

VOLUME 3, NUMBER 9

CITY NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 1988

PARK COMMISSION REVIEWS

PROPOSED TRAIL SYSTEM

WITH CITIZENS

The Park and Recreation Commission met on August 11 and
the first case on the agenda was a discussion with concern-
ed residents regarding the proposed multi-use trail system.

In summary, those residents that addressed the Commis-
sion were opposed to the trail system for the following
reasons:

a. A multi-use trail system adjacent to residential pro-
perties is not an appropriate location.
b. It would require affected property owners to give up
too much of their land for the system.
c. The City cannot afford to develop and maintain a multi-
use trail system; the money would be better spent on
improving existing parks.
d. That the trail system will lower the values of proper-
ties located adjacent to it.
e. The additional traffic generated by trail users.
f. Snowmobiles will be allowed to use portions of the
trail and there will be noise generated.
Any other citizens wishing to comment on the proposed
multi-use trail system should write a letter to the Park and
Recreation Commission, c/o Ramsey City Hall, 15153
Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, MN 55303.

DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACT STATEMENT FOR
ANOKA LANDFILL
COMPLETED

Waste Management of Minnesota, Inc. has proposed a ver-
tical expansion of the Anoka Sanitary Landfill. The expan-
sion would allow an additional 1 ,021,100 cubic yards (635
acre feet) of municipal solid waste to be disposed. In com-
bination with plans for capping, slope cover, methane gas
collection and diversion of surface runoff to sedimentation
basins, the expansion is expected to reduce the rate of
leachate generation from the landfill. The EIS describes and
evaluates the proposed project and primary alternatives as
well as the geohydrologic, air quality, economic and
sociologic impacts.
Copies of the draft EIS are available for public review at
City Hall. Written comments on the draft EIS will be accepted
and are due October 10,1988. Comments should be mailed
to Wayne Nelson, EIS Project Manager, Metropolitan Coun-
cil, Mears Park Centre, 230 East Fifth Street, St. Paul, Mn
55101. A public meeting on the draft EIS is scheduled for
September 26, 1988 at the Anoka Area Vocational Technical
Institute on Hwy. #10.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF

RIVER'S BEND AND

FLINTWOOD II AND III

The Public Works Department will be flUShing out the
municipal water system on October 17-21 between the hours
of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. During this flushing process,
scale and rusty residue are broken loose from the pipes. If
you perform high water usage tasks in your home during
those flushing hours, it is possible to draw that scale and
rusty residue into your home pipes. Superintendent Mevissen
requests that homeowners in the municipal water areas
specifically refrain from washing clothes between 7:30 a.m.
and 4:00 p.m. on those flushing days to prevent costly
damage to clothing.

Ramsey Resident
Ramsey Municipal Center
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

lr-- -

SECOND ANNUAL FALLFEST

Sponsored by the Ramsey Lions

SEPTEMBER 24, 1988
4:00 P.M. . 12:00 Midnight
RUM RIVER PLAZA
HWY. 47 & 167th AVENUE - RAMSEY
Fundraiser for the Ramsey Lions and other Ramsey
organizations
FUN FOR ALL AGES
DRAWINGS FOR BIG PRIZES
· BINGO · FOOD · BEER · LIVE MUSIC
· POP · KIDS GAMES · GAMBLING

The Ramsey Lions will also hold a raffle drawing at the Fall
Fest:
1 st Prize - Snowblower
2nd Prize - Remington 30.06 Deer Rifle
3rd Prize - 12 Gauge Shotgun
You need not be present to win.
