RYAA NEWS

Thanks to all the business' and parents that
donated time and labor, this year's PANCAKE
BREAKFAST was a BIG SUCCESS! We do owe an
apology to those who attended, in order to meet the
former Minnesota Vikings. RYAA has received per-
sonal written apologies from former Vikings, Buster
Rhymes and Fred McNeil. Without the help of Jim
Wedgewood, Nord the Barbarian and the Anoka
Police Department, the smiles on the kids' faces
would have been absent!
Spring and Summer Sports are well under way.
Practices should be beginning in 1 or 2 weeks. If you
have questions regarding the upcoming season, feel
free to attend this month's RYAA meeting. The
meeting will be held on April 25th at 7:30 p.m. at
Ramsey City Hall.
The Agenda will include the following:

1) Update from Spring and Summer Sports
Directors
2) Park Commission report regarding Central
Park
3) Report on Coaches and Umpires Clinics
4) Concession Stand status
5) Sponsorship Program status
6) Interest in Roller Blade League

Parents are encouraged to attend and participate in
any of our monthly meetings.

Roller Blade Program?

RY AA is currently looking into the possibility of a
roller blade program for our youths. Ideas and direc-
tion are needed. We encourage parents to spread
the word and attend April's monthly meeting to see
if there is a big enough interested for this program
in Ramsey. Please attend it!!

A BIG THANKS FROM RYAA

It was a huge success! If you missed it, we'll be
back next year. If you're wondering what we're talk-
ing about, it's the Pancake Breakfast that was held
March 29 at Ramsey School and sponsored by the
Ramsey Youth Athletic Association.
A large number of businesses and parents
volunteered their time to make it a success. There
are so many of you that have helped, it would be im-
possible to list each individually. At this time, RY AA
and the Pancake Breakfast Committee would like to
say

THANK YOU!!

CALLING FOR POLICE?

When you have need to call for the Police Depart-
ment there sometimes exists some confusion as to
which phone number to use. In some aspects of our
lives a little confusion doesn't hurt and can, in fact,
provide some exercise for carboned up brains such
as yours truly sometimes experiences. But, when
you need help and need it in a hurry, confusion can
lead to all kinds of unpleasantness. Therefore, I am
publishing a little reminder this month concerning
"How to Contact the Police" (being late for work for
the first time in months and blowing a stop sign is
one way, but that's another story):
If you need the physical presence of the police and
there is any degree of urgency in that need, call
911. It can be a speeding car that just went by your
house or you just came home and found the front
door kicked in. It doesn't have to be life threatening
or "big-time" activity to use 911. If you need an of-
fice (or fire or ambulance), please use 911.
If you just have some need for information or you
want an officer to stop by sometime during the day,
then call 427-1410. This will put you in touch with
the police offices and that person will get you into
contact with a Ramsey officer.
You can also call the City Hall during normal
business hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday, and ask for the Police Department.
After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, however, direct
all police calls to either 911 or 427-1212.
Remember:
Officer response needs - 911
Information, normal hours - 427-1410
After 5:00 p.m. & weekends - 427-1212
spring pet vaccination clinic on Saturday, April 30,
1988 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Vaccinations will
be given by Dr. David Gilgenbach of the Elk River
Veterinary Clinic and will be administered at the
Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd.
cinated recently but you do not have a current
license, this is your chance to purchase a dog
license without having to come to City Hall during
regular business hours. City personnel will be
available to issue dog licenses and identification
tags. The license fee is $3.00 for males and spayed
females and $5.00 for unspayed females. Dogs must
be licensed when they reach the age of six months.
The license is valid for two years. The City does not
require the licensing of cats.
RAMSEY SENIOR CITIZENS

The Ramsey Senior Citizens Club met on April 6,
1988 and enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner. Dick
Swanson and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Reynolds were
visitors. Lowell and Gladys Beckenbach brought a
cake for their 42nd wedding anniversary. The club
presented them with a card and Andy Aanenson
sang a special song for them. A card was signed and
sent to Harold Hunt who is in the hospital. Andy
Aanenson led a sing-a-Iong and Edith accompanied
him at the piano. Dick Swanson spoke about
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on April
30, 1988. He asked for volunteers to help that day.
BUSINESS SCENE

By: Ramsey Economic Development Commission

Leo LeTourneau and his wife, Jan, owners of
LeTourneau's Super Valu, were raised and started
their family in White Bear Lake. Having begun at the
age of 15 as a bag boy, Leo's career led him to
Barlow Foods, a large independent grocer located
in Rochester. Leo and his family were moved to
Rochester in 1969 where he advanced to General
Manager over 4 stores in 3 states employing 700.
In January of 1985, the LeTourneaus bought the
Super Valu in Ramsey. According to Leo, "I feel on
top of the world. Coming to Ramsey to run a family
business was coming home." Leo and Jan and their
sons Steve and John all own homes in Ramsey and
their son Doug is renting in Ramsey. Four of the six
LeTourneau children are active in the business.
Steve is Store Manager, Doug is Produce Manager,
Amy is Deli Manager and John is General Merchan-
dise Manager. Jan manages the newly established
Floral Department.
According to Leo, the LeTourneau family goal is
to provide a "friendly, convenient grocery store by
doing the best job possible to serve the people of
Ramsey." To accomplish this, they expanded the
store to 17,360 square feet, staffed by 59 employees.
All departments were enlarged and a hot/cold deli
was added along with a greeting card section; flower
shop; service counter offering check cashing, bot-
tle return, utility bill payments and postage stamps;
and film processing.
For recreation, the LeTourneaus fish and golf. Leo
serves on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota
Grocers Association, Rum River Hills Golf Course,
Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce and is a
member of the Ramsey Lions.
ATTENTION
RAMSEY RESIDENTS

In a few days many of you will be receiving a short
survey that deals with the labor force available in our
area. Surveys were mailed out to randomly selected
households in the area. The purpose of this survey
is to help us attract new jobs to the area. The infor-
mation collected will be used to show businesses
that it will be worthwhile locating a business here.
Your input is very important to the success of this
survey. If you receive a survey, please take a few
minutes to fill it out and return it to City Hall. All in-
formation will remain confidential. Your cooperation
is greatly appreciated by us. If you have any ques-
tions on the labor survey, please call Anne Norris
