A BIG THANKS FROM RYAA

It was a huge success! If you missed it, we'll be
back next year. If you're wondering what we're talk-
ing about, it's the Pancake Breakfast that was held
March 29 at Ramsey School and sponsored by the
Ramsey Youth Athletic Association.
A large number of businesses and parents
volunteered their time to make it a success. There
are so many of you that have helped, it would be im-
possible to list each individually. At this time, RY AA
and the Pancake Breakfast Committee would like to
say

THANK YOU!!
RAMSEY LIONS

By the time this newsletter is published, the
Ramsey Lions Club will have been on one of it's
"Mystery Nights". This is an evening when the club
members meet at a local spot, get on a bus and head
for an evening of fun. Only the committee that plann-
ed the evening know where the group will be going.
The evening usually includes a complicated route
designed to confuse the path to a place that has
good food, entertainment and dancing. The fun part
of the evening is that it is a mystery and may not in-
clude any of the things mentioned.
If you passed by Central Park lately, you may have
noticed that the shelter is completed with the excep-
tion of a few minor details and the addition of tables
and barbecue grills. Very shortly, the volleyball court
and horseshoe pits should be completed. The Lions
hope that everyone in the community gets a chance
to enjoy these additions to Central Park.
Another project that the Lions have started is the
construction of a food wagon. In the past, the Lions
have borrowed a trailer that is used for selling food
and drinks at various functions. The Lions have now
purchased a trailer and are in the process of con-
verting it for use as a food concession stand.
The Ramsey Lions have awarded scholarships in
both Elk River and Anoka High Schools in recent
years. This year, the club voted to increase the size
of the scholarships to $1,000.00 for each school.
Those students interested in applying for these
scholarships should contact the counselors at their
school for details.
Persons interested in joining the Ramsey Lions
should contact Dave Bawden at 753-4055.

NEIGHBOR. NEIGHBORHOOD

COMMUNITY

HOMETOWN, U.S.A.

In 1970, Ramsey had a population of 2,360 and 662
households and today we are 11, 395 strong and
3,100 households and growing at a rate of 150 +
homes per year. Therefore, most folks are new to
Ramsey (if you call moving here since 1970 as new
to Ramsey).

So, when asked "why did you move to Ramsey",
many people have sited getting away from the hus-
tle and bustle of the more urban communities,
avoiding crime and getting closer to nature. Ramsey
can and does provide all of these things and more!
But what seems to be missing is the feeling that
Ramsey is
HOMETOWN, U.S.A.

In the days of Tom Sawyer, "Hometown" meant
white-washed fences and well-kept lawns. Not much
has changed since those times; well-kept lawns and
a sense of pride of ownership go a long way toward
developing that hometown spirit.

O.K. Ramsey resident, now that you have lived out
in the country for a while, it is time to turn your at-
tention to your neighbor, your neighborhood and
your community. This month is "Keep America
Beautiful Month" and the focus will be on showing
our pride in the appearance of our home,
neighborhood and hometown. In following months
we will talk about crime control, recreation, preser-
ving our natural resources and other public services;
all of which help you, your neighbor, your
neighborhood and your community become
RAMSEY: HOMETOWN, U.S.A.
HIGHWAY 10
STUDY PROGRESSES

The Ramsey Economic Development Company
has narrowed the selection process down to one
company which the city will contract with to complete
a study of the Highway 10 corridor through Ramsey.
The Ramsey Economic Development Company
has discussed concern over development of
Highway 10 over the past 12 months. The results of
these discussions was the hiring of Barton-Aschman
Associates, Inc. to conduct a study of Highway 10.
This study will encompass a wide array of issues
including:
1. Land use/development
2. Quality of development
3. Transportation
4. Recommendations for implementation
Upon completion, the study will include a strategy
for upgrading land use surrounding Highway 10,
identify business and industry which might be at-
tracted to that area, prepare a series of development
plans, prepare a marketing strategy targeted to
future businesses, and develop and implementation
strategy to complete the goals of the study.
The study is expected to begin soon and will be
completed by the end of September. During the
study, the Barton-Aschman team will hold three
public hearings to gather information and meet with
Ramsey residents regarding their concerns and ex-
pectations of Highway 10.
Barton-Aschman Associates, Inc. has done similar
studies for other communities such as Fridley, Ham
Lake and for Anoka County. This study will also
focus on issues such as the impact of the landfill on
Highway 10 and surrounding area development, the
impact of the airport in the study area and impact
of the regional county park which is located adjacent
to Highway 10.
