RAMSEY SENIOR CITIZENS

The Ramsey Senior Citizen Club met for their
regular monthly meeting on November 5 for a pot
luck luncheon. The members were entertained by
James Schrader who showed his slides of the Holy
Land. The slide presentation was most enjoyable
and informative.
Jack Kirchner, a representative of the Ramsey
Lions Club, informed the club of some projects that
the Lions Club would like to do as a service for the
Ramsey senior citizens.
From November 17 to November 21, the seniors
club collected and delivered canned goods to Anoka
City Hall to be used in the Food Shelf Program.
The Ramsey Senior Citizens Club will meet again
on December 3rd for their annual Christmas party
with a potluck luncheon to be served at noon. All
those attending are requested to also bring a $2.00
exchange gift. The Ramsey Seniors invite you to join
them for a fun time and lots of good food.
The Ramsey Seniors meet the first Wednesday of
each month at noon in the lower level of Ramsey
Municipal Center. The Club welcomes new members
and anyone interested in joining should contact
Dorothy Scroggins at 421-4414.
the Ramsey area. Children from the ages of 8 to 19
are encouraged to join, and adult volunteers are
always welcome. Clubs meet once a month and are
involved in a variety of activities like County Fair and
fieldtrips. Members choose from 150 projects rang-
ing from clothing to clowning, and photography to
pets.
PRECINCT MEETINGS
SCHEDULED

In accordance with the Ramsey City Charter, it is
the responsibility of the councilpersons assigned to
represent Precincts 1, 2 and 3 to conduct a public
meeting prior to the end of the calendar year.
All residents are encouraged to attend their
precinct meeting. There will be no formal agenda
drawn up prior to the meeting, but everyone will have
an opportunity for input on discussion topics. Bring
your ideas and concerns to the meeting and discuss
them with others who may have the same concerns
and questions you have. These meetings will not be
held to make decision on topics, but rather to share
ideas and concerns with each other and your Coun-
cil representative.
This year Council member Cox (representing
Precinct #1), Council member DeLuca (representing
Precinct #2) and Council member Schlueter
(representing Precinct #3) will be conducting one
joint precinct meeting rather than 3 separate precinct
meetings. The precinct meeting is set for 7:00 p.m.
on Monday, December 8 in council chambers of
Ramsey Municipal Center. See you there!

RAMSEY PLOWING AND
PARKING POLICY

It is the policy of the City of Ramsey to plow all
city streets when the snow depth is two inches or
more. Normal starting time is 2:00 a.m. or sooner
if weather permits. It takes from six to ten hours to
open all streets depending upon the snowfall
amount, wind conditions and obstacles in the way
such as cars and garbage cans. The City strongly
requests that on pick-up days, garbage cans be plac-
ed a couple of feet from roadway edge, either in the
boulevard or at driveway end, so as not to hinder
plowing procedures.
The City is divided into five routes with each route
being assigned at least one major thoroughfare
which is opened almost immediately.
The snowplow crew consists of four full time
employees and six part time employees with seven
pieces of equipment. These consist of three large
trucks with plow, wing and sander, two grades with
wings, one loader and one small four wheel drive
truck with plow for plowing intersections and
cu I-de-sacs.

SNOWBIRDS

Basically, this means don't park your motor vehi-
cle on any city street during a snowfall, or afterwards,
until it is plowed. There are a thousand excuses for
leaving your vehicle parked along the roadway and
causing the plows to go around it. None of them are
valid. We will tag and tow! Thank-you.

OVERNIGHT PARKING

No vehicles may be parked on city streets between
2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. year around.

PREPARE YOUR CAR
FOR WINTER DRIVING

Reliable transportation is especially important in
the winter. If you have a car, make sure it is ready
for whatever winter may bring. The following precau-
tions may help you to avoid an unpleasant or
dangerous situation while traveling:
. You should keep your car in top operating con-
dition all year round -- for safety and fuel economy.
It is especially important to winterize your car by
checking the following: ignition system, fuel system,
brakes, battery, exhaust system, wiper blades, lights,
anti-freeze, defroster, tire tread, proper grade oil,
snow tires, cooling system, heater, chains.
. Keep your gasoline tank as nearly full as possi-
ble. This will minimize water in the tank and will pro-
vide the maximum advantage in case of trouble.
. A Citizens Band (CB) radio can be a very useful
item in emergencies.
. Carry a winter storm car kit, especially if travel-
ing long distances or, in the northern states, at all
times. A winter storm car kit should contain:
. Sleeping bags or two or more blankets. A stack
of newspapers can provide layers of insulation and
make a good substitute.
. Two empty 3-lb. coffee cans with lids. One may
be used for sanitary facilities, the other to burn
candles for heat. Use a catalytic heater if available.
A catalytic heater relies on a chemical reaction to
produce heat. (whether using this type of emergen-
cy heat source or your car's own heater, be sure to
leave a window open for air circulation. Carbon
monoxide poisoning can happen without the victim
being aware of it until it's too late.)
. Matches and candles.
. Winter clothing including wool caps, mittens and
overshoes.
. Large box of facial tissues.
. Flashlight with extra batteries.
. Small sack of sand.
. One set of tire chains.
. Shovel.
. Food supply (high calorie, non-perishable food
such as canned nuts, dried fruit, candy, etc.)
. Tools (pliers, screwdriver, adjustable wrench.)
. Windshield scraper.
. Transistor radio with extra battery.
. Battery booster cables.

CHIMNEY SAFETY HINTS

With the arrival of the heating season it is time to
make sure that chimneys are clean and in proper
working condition.
Chimneys should be cleaned frequently, especial-
ly if used often in the winter. There are several
chimney sweeps in the area who will clean your
chimney for a fee, or you can call a rental business
and obtain cleaning equipment.
There are chimney fire extinguishers for sale at
most lumber and hardware stores. These are design-
ed for home owners to put in the stove when they
experience a chimney fire.
To make sure a chimney fire doesn't take you by
surprise, check smoke detectors to see that they are
working properly. The life they save may be yours.
Finally, make sure flammable liquids are remov-
ed from the home.
These hints can help keep your fireplace the cozy
addition to your home it was intended to be.
