You must have written permission from the
owner of the property on which you intend to
hunt.
2. The area in which you are hunting must be
1500 feet from any residence or other
structure.
3. The only type of firearm allowed is a shotgun
with no larger than size 4 shot.
The following rules apply to bow and arrow
hunting:
1. You must be 300 yards from any residential
structure, commercial structure, park or
playground and 150 yards from any trunk
highway.
2. Applicants must apply for a bow and arrow hun-
ting permit at the Ramsey Police Department.
3. You must have written permission from the
owner of the property on which you intend to
hunt.
4. Ramsey bow and arrow hunting permits are
issued for the annual season only.

The leaves are changing to their Fall colors and
will soon fall from the trees. Will you remember which
trees have wilted or which branches you want to
remove? It's a good practice to paint mark the trees
now for removal to remind you of your task, or to
mark the branches you wish to prune during the
coming cold season. Also, it's an ideal time for plan-
ting and transplanting.
The 1986 diseased tree survey map is posted at
Ramsey City Hall. Check it out to see the scope of
the progress of the Oak Wilt and Dutch Elm Disease
in your neighborhood.
Ramsey's Tree Inspector, Bruce Bacon, is
available for questions on tree maintenance, shap-
ing and diversification of species in your landscape
planning. Mr. Bacon can also advise you on disease
control and soil building. Mr. Bacon can be reached
by calling 753-5099.

RAMSEY MUNICIPAL CENTER
15153 Nowthen Blvd.
427-1410

HOME PHONE
753-1566

CITY SEEKS STAR CITY
DESIGNATION

COUNCIL
Mayor Gary Reimann
(AT LARGE)
Councilmember Jean Schlueter
(Representing Precinct No.3)
Council member Arnie Cox
(Representing Precinct No.1)
Councilmember AI Sorteberg
(At Large)
COMMISSION CHAIRPERSONS
Ken Peterson, Planing & Zoning
Dennis Donovan, Park & Recreation
Jack Beissel, Cable T.V.
Don Greenberg, Economic Development
Jack Ippel, Airport
Dick Sieber, Charter
CITY STAFF
Administrator David Hartley
Assessor Les Wirz
Attorney Bill Goodrich
Building Inspector Elvin Erickson
Development Director Anne Norris
Engineer Peter Raatikka
Finance Officer Noel Graczyk
Public Works Supt. The
Star City program is a process for developing local
economic development skills and strategies for
economic development in the City. The City will
receive Star City designation upon completion of cer-
tain assignments.
The Economic Development Commission will be
completing these assignments including:
. drafting a five year plan and strategy for
economic development in Ramsey;
. completing a one year work plan and strategy
for economic development in Ramsey;
. completing a labor survey of Ramsey;
. making a five year capital improvement plan;
and
. developing and maintaining an annual survey
of Ramsey businesses.
In addition, the Commission is working on a video
tape of the community and has prepared a promo-
tional brochure on the City. The Commission hopes
to complete all the tasks within 18 months.

753-1610

421-1848

427-3844
753-1227
753-1041
441-1939
753-4165
421-2161

427-1410
427-1410
421-5424
427-1410
427-1410
427 -5860
427-1410
427-4180
427-1410

u'- -

A WORD FROM YOUR

POLICE CHIEF

MINNESOTA CRIMEWATCH

Is there anybody out there who would be in-
terested in attending an evening devoted to talking
about helping to prevent criminal activities such as
larceny, burglary and vandalism?
I realize that we are in a fierce competition about
this time of year with all kinds and varieties of ac-
tivities including but not limited to: after school and
evening functions, hockey, football, soccer, return
of Dynasty, Knot's Landing, hunting, late walleye
fishing, etc. However, unfortunately this is also about
the time that the daytime burglars sleaze their way
out of the woodwork because they know the kids are
in school and most likely nobody is home until at
least 2:00 or so. Also, the outboard motor thieves
are switching over to their fall catalogs and are busy
stealing snowmobiles and meeting the demand via
their friendly fences and otherwise good citizens who
can't pass up a good deal, thereby creating a market
for the thieves. Car prowls are popular lately also and
the perpetrators quickly break out a window and grab
contents lying around inside such as nice winter
coats, hunting equipment, tape decks and tapes,
Radar Detectors (I can't seem to get overly excited
about those! Biased, I guess) and other items of
value.
We will be more than willing to host a meeting(s)
to discuss ways to help keep your home a little more
secure and how to report activity that seems
suspicious and, moreover, how to recognize
suspicious activity in the first place. We will tell you
how to place a call for police assistance and when
to call. (I believe some people think that when we
answer a false alarm call, such as a cat stomping
it's feet in a garbage can or a couple getting to know
each other better in a parked car, we laugh our fool
heads off or get angry when we are out of the com-
plainant's view. No so! We would rather be called
out for something like that than not called when the
noise may have come from a sleaze doing his work!)
Anyway, these are the things we would discuss
along with some slides about crime prevention. We
will also furnish coffee and, if I can get away with
it, some cookies.
If any of our readers are interested in something
such as this, please call. .. 427-1410 ... and ask
for ARLENE or MIKE and let them or anybody else
who answers in their absence, know you are in-
terested. If we get enough interested, we will set up
a date for a general meeting which will be announc-
ed in this newsletter. Or, maybe if you have a group
of your own (preferably 10 couples or more) we can
arrange a special meeting; your place or ours, it
doesn't matter. Please call!

CENTRAL PARK SOCCER
NETS STOLEN

If any of you parents should happen to wonder why
your child has this gigantic orange/red net strung up
inside his or her room and you are told they got it
in trade for a pet frog or something, please don't
believe it. It is likely one of the two soccer nets taken
from the frames at Central Park about 3 weeks ago.
It seems that no sooner does a community attempt
to do something to help it's citizens enjoy a higher
quality of life than someone comes along to spoil it!
I know this may be futile but I'll ask anyway; would
the person(s) who took the nets, if you read this,
please return them in one way or another to the city
so that the kids can get going with their soccer pro-
gram. Unless the nets are being used to net Cod or
Tuna, I can't imagine any other use for them other
than maybe a room decoration. Another, probably
equally futile request is to ask anyone who knows
where the nets may be and/or who took them to call
the City Hall, 427-1410 or Anoka County Central
Communications after 5:00 p.m. at 427-1212. I
realize this may be considered "ratting" or "narc-
ing" but what the heck, dare to be different! Please,
be a citizen and help the community. Thank you.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

COMMISSION PRODUCING

VIDEO OF RAMSEY

The Ramsey Economic Development Commission
is preparing a promotional video tape of the City of
Ramsey. The tape will be used to represent and
market the City and will include information on the
community such as civic organizations, parks and
recreation, employment, education, health care,
transportation, etc. The tape will be available to
realtors, schools, civic organizations, etc.
The Commission invites suggestions from
residents and local organizations regarding the con-
tents of this tape. Please call Anne Norris or Sylvia
Frolik at 427-1410 with your suggestions.
Funds from the Anoka County Community
Development Block Grant program are being used
to pay for the production of this tape.
