If this re-
quest is approved, what will it mean to the citizens
of Ramsey? Here are the answers to some of the
questions being asked.
1. Why is Group W selling our cable system?
Westinghouse is divesting itself of all cable
systems nationwide. In addition to our system North
Central is seeking ownership of other cable systems
which include Group W holdings in Burnsville, Col-
umbia Heights/Hilltop, Ramsey/Washington coun-
ties, and the North Central Suburbs system (Blaine,
Coon Rapids, Mounds View, and New Brighton).
2. Will this request for transfer of ownership be
any expense to the city of Ramsey?
No. Article XII Para. G of our cable franchise states
"...Grantee shall pay all costs incurred by the city
in any inquiry into the qualifications of the prospec-
tive controlling party".
3. Will my cable rates increase if the transfer of
ownership is approved?
In accordance with the Cable Communications Act
cities cannot regulate rates charged by cable com-
panies after Dec. 29, 1986.
4. What experience does the potential new
owner have with cable systems?
While North Central Communications Co. would
own our cable system it would be managed by
Hauser Communications Co. Hauser Communica-
tions now manages the cable systems in the cities
of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Crystal, Golden
Valley, Maple Grove, Plymouth and Osseo. Addi-
tionally, Hauser Communications manages the cable
system in the city of Arlington, Va. This system has
39,000 customers out of 80,000 homes passed. This
is a 48 per cent penetration versus 31 per cent for
the Quad Cities.
The next monthly meeting of the Quad Cities
Cable Commission is scheduled for May 15 at 5 PM
in the Anoka city hall.

4.H CLUBS IN RAMSEY

There are approximately 3 4-H Clubs that serve
the Ramsey area. Three Anoka-Hennepin
teams, (Ramsey, Sorteberg and L.O. Jacob), earn-
ed the right to compete in the International Odyssey
of the Mind later this year in Flagstaff, Arizona, when
they took first place honors.
Odyssey of the Mind is a scientifically based
problem-solving competition designed for highly
creative students. Teams of seven students compete
in two events, spontaneous and long-term.
The spontaneous event involves a brainstorming
activity in which students receive points for the
number of answers they give and the creativity of
the answers. If asked to name as many "birds" as
possible, for example, students would get one point
for responses such as bluebird and robin, but three
points for more creative answers like "Lady Bird"
Johnson.
Teams have a choice of several long-term pro-
blems, the solutions to which are presented in a
theatrical format to the judges the day of the com-
petition after weeks of preparation. In the
"Technocrats" problem, for example, students had
to invent a product and an assembly line method for
putting it together and packaging it. The day of the
competion they set up their assembly line, made and
packaged the product in front of the judges.
Ramsey School fourth graders won first place in
"Technocrats" Division for their production of a
"Creepy Creatures Kit."

Ramsey School's team won first place in "Technocrats" Division I at the
state Odyssey of the Mind competition. Team members are, from left, Aaron
Stritesky, Desiree Tolbert, Andrew Krizaj, Amanda Monson, Brian Beau-
bien, Craig Olson and Joshua Ahlquist. Coach is teacher Patty Hill.
