Cross country skiing has
slowly become a very popular
The city has two locations for
cross country skiers to enjoy
the outdoors:
1. Greenhaven Golf Course
will be open to cross country
skiing on groomed trails (as
weather permits). Skiers will
NOT be permitted on the'
greens, tees, or sliding hill and
should stay on the trails.
your game by making arrange-
ments with the attendant on
duty at the rink you wish to
What to do Before the Burglar Comes

i,

The Anoka Police Depart-
ment would like to, in coopera-
tion with the Minnesota De-
partment of Public Safety, give
you a few tips designed to
help you avoid making your
home look like an easy target.
These are simple, basic
security measures that will
make your home less inviting
and, in so doing, lead the
burglar to look elsewhere for
an easier target.
1. Make your home look and
sound occupied. By day, leave
drapes and shades in normal
position n the way you have
them when at home, At night,
leave on some inner lights
--bathrooms and hallways, for
example. Consider buying
automatic timers that turn on
lights after dark, then off a few
hours later or so, or at dawn.
These timers can also turn a
radio ,on, so your house
sounds occupied.
2. Be a good neighbor.
Keep an eye on your
neighbor's home, get them to
do the same for you. If you see
something suspeicious, call
the Anoka Police Department
immediately. The police would
tached to your house or car
5. Don't welcome burglars
by telephone. Burglars often
try to find out if anyone's
home by phoning. Warn family
members, especially children,
to give out no information by
phone n especially about who
is home, who is. out, how long
anyone is expected to be out.
6. Don't open your door to
anyone with no business in-
side. Ask for identification
and, if you have the slightest

lar to look for easier or quieter
pickings.
9. Don't advertise your
vacation plans. When gone,
stop newspapers and other
deliveries. Arrange to have the
lawn mowed and the walks
shoveled.
10. Tell the police or sheriff,
if you will be away from home
for an extended period of time.
They may take runs past your
home from time to time, alert
for signs of suspicious activi.
cation. Operation Identifica-
houses (when open) will be
supervised by the rink atten-
dant who has "exclusive"
rules and regulations posted in
them. Rink attendants are not
"babysitters" but are respon-
sible for overseeing rink
scheduling, safety, and
general operation of the facili-
ty.
TO OUR RESIDENTS
The City of Anoka Park De-
partment employees spend
.much time and effort to pro-
vide you the finest skating
facilities they can. Crews work
through the night so rinks and
skating areas are ready for the
rush of skaters. They take
great pride in their work and
though they get wet and cold,
they truly care about the safe-
ty and fun Anoka children and
adults have on ice in our parks.
You will notice that all rinks
are swept, cleaned and resur-
faced daily for your enjoyment
(even if it snows).
We sincerely hope that you
come and enjoy the winter fun
opportunities that await you in
Anoka.
We wish you a safe and fun
filled winter season!

tion has effectively reduced
burglary wherever it has been
properly implemented. Your
valuable property is marked
with your permanent identifi-
cation number and a window.
sticker warns would-be burg-
lars of the risk of entering your
home. Call the Anoka Police
Department about Operation
Identification.
These precautions will not
guarantee your home to be
burglar-safe; but, these basic
security tips will make your
home less inviting as a target.
