BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
STUDY UNDERWAY
The City of Anoka has con-
tracted with Pryde Roberts
and Company, a business de-
velopment consultant, to
undertake a Business Devel-
opment Feasibility Study. The

I
~

first phase of the study will be
to determine the market for
new business development
within the City. If phase I indi-
cates a favorable market, a
venture analysis will be con-
ducted to determine the
feasibility of establishing a
"small business incubator
center" within the City.
A business incubator, or
enterprise, center provides a
sheltered environment for the
generation of new home
grown businesses. An incu-
bator facility generally offers
low rent, centralized services,
flexible leases and manage-
ment advice to new business
owners. Once a new business
has become established in the
market place, it "graduates"
from the facility and moves to
other locations within the
community. .
Economic development
studies indicate that approxi-
mately 80% of new jobs within
a community are generated by
existing businesse~. With this
in mind, the Anoka Economic
Development Commission is
pursuing policies which will
foster business development
within the community. This
study is designed to identify
opportunities for business
development within Anoka.
If you, or someone you
know, is considering starting a
business and is interested in
becoming a tenant in the
"business incubator center",
please contact Bob Kirchner'

at Anoka City Hall, at 421-6630,
ext. 134.
SCORE NEWS
SCORE, The Service Corps
of Retired Executives, is a non-
profit organization that pro-
vides free individual counsel-
ing to small business owners.
The local SCORE office, locat-
ed in Anoka City Hall, opened
just over one year ago. Since
then, it has provided free
counseling to numerous area
busi nesses.
Mr. Wayne Hultquist, retired
president of Thermo Serv Inc.,
who manages the office, says
that he conducts one or two
counseling sessions per week.
Since last May, he has com-
pleted counseling with nine
business owners and is cur-
rently working with four addi-
tional businesses. Mr. Hult-
quist says about one-half of
his counseling is with persons
who are considering' going in-
to business. He advises such
persons to attend the "going
into business workshop"
sponsored by SCORE several
times a year. For information
call the Minneapolis SCORE
office at 370-0839.
The Anoka chapter of
SCORE is open on an appoint-
ment basis only. To receive
more information on how to
receive SCORE services,
please contact Robert Kir-
chner, Anoka Community De-
