U'nique Opportunity for
Machine Shop Stud.ents.

Anoka AVTI offers a unique
opportunity to Anoka-Henne-
pin District high schoolvoca-
tional education machine
shop students.
The vocational education
high school students enrolled
in the Anoka AVTI machine
trades program will. be able to
take an accelerated machine
shop and math program this
coming summer, enabling
them to spend one less quar-
ter in the training needed to
become tool and die makers or
moldmakers.
Normally, students' graduat:
ing from the high school
machine trades program enroll
in the second quarter of the
machine Shop program at the
AVTI. It was discovered, how-
ever, that those students lack-
ed the necessary background
to enroll in the third quarter of
AVTI's machine shop program.
Through this new, accelerated
program students will receive

the training needed to com-
plete the second quarter"while
completing all of the training
for the third quarter of the
machine shop program at the
Anoka A VTI.
This accelerated program
will require some extra effort
on the part of the students.
One of the AVTI machine shop
instructors will be in charge of
the accelerated program, ex-
cluding the math training
which will be provided by the
math department.
For students, the appeal of
this accelerated program is
two-fold: 1.) the high school
students receive full credit for'
the background they already
have; and 2.) the students will
spend one less quarter in
training, saving $336 in tuition
costs and be able to gain em-
ployment one quarter earlier.
Assuming a modest pay scale,
the students would be able to
earn an extra $3500 because of

the early completion of the
program.
The accelerated program
was initiated by Edgar Meyer,
math department coordinator
at Anoka A VTI, who was
assisted by Jack~McGillivray,
machine shop coordinator;
Clarence Rud, vocational
education high school
machine instructor; an'd Jerry
Arzdorf, Anoka AVTI counselor
for the machine shop program.
To date, the following high
school students have enrolled
in the program. Chris .Frost,
Mike Hruby, Jeff Olsen, Todd
WarmbQld, Greg Schubert,
Scott Kappeller, John Haugen,
Steve Boatman, Greg DeMars
and Kevin Gulbrag.
If this accelerated program
is successful this summer, it
will probably be offered again
in 1986.
Good luck and a successful
future, students!
