Anoka Police Report

ing ordinance are efforts to
divert individuals who attempt
to circumvent the parking',
restrictions. Some individuals
have been seen removing
enforcement markings or
simply moving. a vehicle one
stall to get around the or-
dinance.
. Vehicles will be' required
under the change to move a
vehicle at least 200 feet in a
timed zone and are forbidden
to remove enforcement mark-
ings. In addition the ordinance
change calls for a permit sys-
tem to, identify those vehicles
parked in city lots which may
. have owners who live above
downtown business buildings.
Finally, the ordinance calls for
the violation of the ordinance
to be changed from a misde-
meanor to a petty misdemean-
or.
The City of Anoka would like
to remind residents that in
order to have a' "Tree-men,
dous" environment, we must
guaran-"tree" our future by
planting. and maintaining
trees.
. We can agree as to the many
benefits we receive from our
trees. But in order to continue
to reap the benefits, we must
continue to plant trees and
take care of them the best that
we possibly'can; for a tree is
not just a tree, it's a friend.
The month of May is Arbor

Month in Anoka, and we en-
courage all citizens of our city
to plant a tree on their property
for future generations' enjoy-
ment and benefit.
In the Garrett Eckbo book
Landscape for Living, he wrote
that "Trees, rather than build-
ings, are the best measure of a
civilized landscape. A com-
munity in which many mature
trees survive and more are
planted regularly demonstrat-
es a sense of time, history and
continuity on the land."
As we look at Anoka, we can

see a great transition taking
place right before our eyes. All
new city projects require the
planting of new trees prior to
completion, and the city is
beginning to reforest many
boulevards in our neighbor-
hoods as a genuine attempt to
keep our neighb.orhoods
beautiful. Also, the city is re-
quiring new developments in
the city to plant boulevard
trees for the future.
With your help, we can keep
Anoka green and guarari-
"tree" the future.
