The Commission is currently pre- paring an audio-visual pres-' entation and Community Fact Booklet to highlight the bene- fits of living and doing busi- ness in Anoka. Since the 1920's, Ar:lOka has been known as the Hallo- ween Capital of the World. This identity will continue and be highlighted in our promo- tional material as one of our unique community events. However, the Chamber and City wish to establish a broad. er community-wide theme for business development. During early spring, the Anoka Street Department swept all the streets and City parking lots twice to clean up sand from the winter. Center lines were -striped, crosswalks were painted and signs were replaced and repaired during this period. Spring 'road pat- ching and grading were also done during April and May. Now that the Street De- ,partment has' completed its annual "spring cleaning", the major street repair projects start that will keep City crews busy all summer. During the lirst two weeks of June, the Street Department will begin overlaying certain streets. Residents can look at the 1985 overlay schedule on this page to see if their street is to be resurfaced. The Street' De- _ partment begins by putting on a "tack coat", so that the new asphalt will stick to the old asphalt. Using the City's paver, a 1" thick overlay is laid. Right behind the paver follows a heavy "roller" to smooth and compact the asphalt mix. This year, City Street Department crews will be resurfacing 28 blocks (which will take 2,145 7. tons of asphalt). . 8. Upon completion of resur- 9. facing, the last two weeks of 10. June and all through July, crews prepare the streets for sealcoating by patching all holes and cracks. This year, the Street Department will be using ap- proximately 2,000 tons of crushed FA-2 aggregate and 40,000 gallons of emulsion to seal coat 85 City blocks and 3 parking lots. A schedule for' streets due to be seal coated is also presented on this page. The Street Department asks residents to cooperate with the crews during sealcoating and overlaying to' insure that Anoka ,roads are properly re- paired.
