<br />of Anoka. This month's short
<br />profile features the Anoka City
<br />Planner, Kirk Corson. Mr. Cor-
<br />son is employed, in the Com-
<br />munity Development Depart-
<br />ment under the direction of
<br />Robert. Kirchner, Community
<br />Development Director.
<br />Kirk was hired by the City of
<br />Anoka in November of 1984 to
<br />assist 'with the increasing
<br />work load of the Community
<br />Development Department and
<br />allow the Director to concen-
<br />trate on the Star City Program
<br />and economic development
<br />activities. Previous to that ap-
<br />pointment, he held positions
<br />asa Field Representative for,
<br />U.S. Congressman Gerry
<br />Sikorski and the City of
<br />Mound, MN., as a planner.
<br />Kirk has had a long-standing
<br />interest in planning and de-
<br />velopment. Much of his under-
<br />graduate work at the Univer-
<br />sity of Minnesota wa::; spent
<br />abroad studying the urban pro-
<br />blems of European and South
<br />American cities. This, in com-
<br />bination with his graduate
<br />work at the School of Architec.
<br />ture and Urban Planning at the
<br />University of Wisconsin, Mil-
<br />waukee, has given him a good
<br />understanding of municipal
<br />planning problems.
<br />As City Planner, Kirk is an
<br />appropriate choice for this
<br />staff profile,. given his re-

<br />makes presentations regard-
<br />ing development projects to
<br />the Anoka' Planning Commis-
<br />sion and Anoka City Council.

<br />The Anoka Economic De-
<br />velopment Commission an-
<br />nounced that ,a local SCORE
<br />chapter has opened to assist
<br />area development of small
<br />business.
<br />SCORE, the Service Corps
<br />of Retired Executives, is a non-
<br />profit organization that provid-
<br />es free individual counseling
<br />to small business persons.
<br />Mr. Wayne Hultquist, r~tired
<br />President of Thermo Serv, Inc.
<br />of Anoka, manages the office
<br />which is located in Anoka City
<br />Hall. The Anoka chapter of
<br />SCORE will provide free con-
<br />sultation services to assist the
<br />healthy development of new or
<br />'existing small businesses.
<br />SCORE was started in Min-
<br />neapolis in 1964 and is now a
<br />national organization. Its retir-
<br />ed executives serve as volun-
<br />teer counselors to advise
<br />small business persons on
<br />how to best deal with specif[c
<br />business problems. Problems
<br />addressed can range from how'
<br />to market services to increas-
<br />ing business profitability.
