If he can be of any <br />assistance in your develop- <br />ment plans, or 'answer any <br />questions, please call Bob at <br />421-6630, ext. 134. <br />SCORE OFFICE OPENS <br />IN ANOKA <br />The Anoka Economic De- <br />velopment Commission an- <br />nounced. that a local SCORE <br />chapter has opened to assist <br />area development. of small <br />business. SCORE, the Service <br />Corps of Retired Executives, <br />is a non-profit organization <br />that provides free individual <br />counseling to small business <br />persons. <br />Mr. Wayne Hultquist, retir- <br />ed President of Thermo Serv, <br />Inc. of Anoka, manages the of- <br />fice which is located in Anoka <br />City Hall. The Anoka chapter <br />of. SCORE will provide free <br />con su Itati on servi ces to <br />assist the healthy develop- <br />ment of new or existing small <br />businesses. <br />SCORE was started in Min- <br />neapolis in 1964 and is now a <br />national organization. Its re- <br />tired executives serve as vol- <br />unteer counselors to advise <br />small business persons on <br />how to best deal with specific <br />business problems. Problems <br />addressed can ran'ge from <br />how to market services to in- <br />creasing business profitabili- <br />ty. <br />The Anoka chapter of <br />SCORE is open on an appoint- <br />ment basis only. To receive <br />more information on how to <br />receive SCORE services, <br />please contact Robert Kirch- <br />ner, Anoka Community Devel- <br />opment Director, at 421-6630. <br />ANOKA BUSINESS SURVEY <br />AND BUSINESS LIST <br />AVAILABLE <br />The City of Anoka complet- <br />ed a survey of all businesses <br />and industries. within the City <br />last year. The survey identi- <br />fied over 450 businesses <br />which employ over 10,000 <br />people. A copy of the Survey <br />Report and a listing of Anoka <br />businesses can be obtained <br />from the Community Develop-. <br />ment Department at Anoka Ci- <br />ty Hall. The report costs $2.00 <br />and the business list costs <br />$1.00. <br />CITY OF ANOKA <br />COMMERCIAL <br />REHABILITATION PROGRAM <br />As part of Anoka's Com- <br />munity Development Block <br />Grant Program, City Council <br />recently approved a pilot pro- <br />gram for commercial rehabili- <br />tation and allocated $60,000 <br />for loans. This, of <br />course, does not obligate you <br />to participate; however, we <br />will call you back as spe- <br />cific program guidelines are <br />developed to discuss your <br />project further with you. <br />ANOKA PLANNING <br />COMMISSION PROCEDURES <br />With the summer construc- <br />tion season fast approaching, <br />the City of Anoka would like <br />to make it known that apply- <br />ing for development permits <br />through the Planning Com- <br />mission is not a difficult pro- <br />cess. It begins with discuss- <br />ing your idea or planned con- <br />cept with the Community <br />Development Department. <br />Such an approach ensures <br />that the applicants have con- <br />sidered all the possible <br />angles of the development. <br />If special approval is requir- <br />ed, as in the case of a vari- <br />ance, conditional use, or sub- <br />division, the applicant must <br />appear before the Planning <br />Commission, which meets on <br />the first Tuesday of every <br />month. Decisions of the Plan- <br />ning Commission are finaliz- <br />ed by the City Council on the <br />third Monday of each month. <br />Please remember that the <br />length of time needed' to re- <br />view the application, make a <br />planning staff report, prepare <br />a .presentation, publish <br />notices, and present the ap- <br />plications to the Planning <br />Commission and City Council <br />takes less than a month. To <br />ensure the continuation of <br />this efficient process, please <br />submit adequate plans. Manufactured <br />by the Pierce Fire Equipment <br />Company, Appleton, Wiscon- <br />sin, the $375,000 aerial ladder/ <br />platform fire truck will.be the <br />tallest in fire service in the <br />world. City of- <br />fices will re-open on Tuesday, <br />May 28, 1985, for business at <br />the regular hours of 8 a.m. to 5 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Watermain <br />Flushing <br /> <br />L-1.~ <br /> <br />The city of Anoka water <br />department will flush water- <br />mains during a one week <br />period beginning April. 29, <br />1985. This work is expected to <br />continue until May 3, 1985. <br />There will be no watermain <br />flushing on Saturday or Sun- <br />day during this period. <br />The 'flushing will create a <br />disturbance in the system and <br />may cause dark colored <br />water. Although the water is <br />fit for human consumption, <br />there is the risk of staining <br />clothing .in the wash. Clothes <br />washing should be' avoided <br />on the days flushing is done. <br />Flushing will begin at 5 a.m. <br />and will take place according <br />to the dates indicated on the <br />map. <br />The effectiveness of this <br />work is impaired if an area is <br />bypassed or if the flushing is <br />interrupted.
