Your Chamber: serving Andover,
Anoka, Ramsey and Champlin

,J
I

At the opportunity of this
new newsletter, we at the
Anoka Area Chamber of Com-
merce are pleased to con-
tribute. Contrary to what
some people may believe, the
Anoka Area Chamber is not
the City of Anoka's Chamber
of Commerce. The current
Board of Directors is taking
special steps to communicate
with the businesses in the
cities of Champlin, Ramsey,
Andover and Anoka. People
and businesses from all these
.cities are members as well as
represented on the Board
itself.
In the event there is some-
one new to the area or just
someone who may not know
what the Chamber is or what
it does, let me take a little
time to describe who we are,
what our purpose is and who
actually runs the Chamber.
The Anoka Area Chamber is
an action agency designed to
meet community needs. It is a
voluntary organization of in-
dividuals and businesses who
band together to advance the
commercial, financial, in-
dustrial and civic interests of
a community. It is a civic
clearinghouse, a public rela-
tions counselor, and a leg-
islative representative at the
local level.
The Chamber is designed

I
I,

to promote our area as a good
place to live and work; provide
recognition to new and ex-
isting area businesses; spon-
sor public forums on topics of
interest and business; pro-
mote and sponsor community
activities and services, and at-
tract and maintain economic
development and growth. It
. could be defined as "people
working together to make
their community a better
place to . live and make a liv-
ing."
The Chamber meets month-
ly on the second Tuesday at
various restaurants in the
area. The monthly m~etings
try to provide speakers that
have topics which are current
and relevant to the member-
ship. Be sure to watch this
newsletter for their announce-
ment.
The current Board of Direc-
tors, in an attempt to reach
the many businesses in this
area, have reduced dues for
new members. This will pro-
vide an opportunity for
anyone to attend meetings
and fellowship with people in
the area who have similar
kinds of problems and con-
cerns. If you are interested be
sure to call Marilyn at the
Chamber Office (421-7130) or
stop by and see her at 1922 -
1 st Avenue in Anoka.
Reputation:
What's in a "name?

. Selecting a CPA firm by reputation can be dangerous, if you regard reputation as simply prestige. Reputation
in business has little to do with social contacts or country club memberships. A solid business reputation is based
on how bankers, attorneys and other businesses in the community regard the accounting firm.

If you're considering a particular CPA firm, talk to your banker and your corporate attorney. Chances are,
they've had business dealings with the firm at some time. If they don't have specific information, they can get it
for you. They can help you decide if the firm is experienced, knowledgeable and competent.

Find out al~o how the accounting firm stands within its own profession. If it has a good, solid reputation as a
quality firm, other CPA's will recognize it as such. Why not call your state society of CPA's?

And, finally, ask the CPA firm for client references. Clients know the firm's work better than anyone, and a
satisfied client is an excellent recommendation. "

At Cummings, Keegan & Co., we're proud of our reputation. It's taken us 25 years to build. Ask your banker or
attorney about us. And give us a call; we'll be happy to give you client references and send a booklet describing
our firm and the services we offer.
