Tri.City Newsletter!.... March/April,' 1985 .L Page 8

Minnesota Crimewatch info

~
I
~
u

Breathes there a ,person
with a soul so dead, who, to
(him), (her), (it) self has not
said, "I'm not interested in
Crimewatch ideas?" (Apolo-
gies to the poet) Apparently
so, because at a'recent Com-
munity School seminar (free,
yeU) we had only four persons
in attendance. Since then we
have checked out our: (1)
deodorant, (2) appearance, (3)
switched to Scope and (4)
language. Maybe this will
help, and if not I'm a bit
stymied as to what else to do.
We have, in the past six
years mainly advertised via
newspaper, radio, ADS boxes,
school bulletins, word of
mouth, jungle drums,' gossip
and telepathy to I ittle or no
avail. Either we're doing such
a good job out there that
everybody feels safe and
secure (fairy tales I should
write!) or apathy is epidemic.
Or maybe all the burglars;
thieves, rapists, etc. have
seen the light and are retired

in Florida condos, so nobody
is worried anymore. I'd like to
believe the first, don't believe
the last and doubt the middle
reason. .
SO:..like Charlie .Brown at-
tempting to kick the Lucy-
held football every year, I will
again charge into the fray to
announce that we have'a wide
variety. of crime prevention
topic? to discuss with any in-
t~rested groups" Just get six
or so (more preferred) warm,
breathing bodies together
and arrange a date with us
and we'll talk about making
your home a bit more burglar
resistant,' how to reduce the
chance of thefts, how to pro.
tect yourself against rape and
other assaults, how to form a
neighborhood watch group,
how to stir fry pigweed, etc.,
, etc. If anybody out there is in-
terested, PLEASE call the
police dept. a( 427-1410 bet.
ween 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. If
you are not interested call
anyway and say hello.

Ramsey receives certificate of
conformance in financial reporting

.........,

For the third consecutive
year, the Certificate of Con-
formance in Financial Repor-
ting has been awarded to the
City of Ramsey by the Govern-
ment Finance Officers Assoc-
iation of the United States
and Canada (GFOA) for its
comprehensive annual finan-
cial report for the fiscal year
ended Dec. 31,1983. TheCer-
tificate of Conformance is the
highest form of recognition in
the -area of governmental ac-
counting and financial repor-
ting, and its attainment
represents a significant ac-
complishment by a govern-
ment and its management.
By being awarded a Cer-
tificate of Conformance, the
comprehensive annual finan-'
cial report (CAFR) of a govern-
ment has been judged to
substantially conform to the
programs high standards of
excellence. Such standards
encompass both generally ac-
cepted accounting principles
and applicable legal re-
quirements.
To earn a Certificate of
Con.formance a g9vernment

I
f

must demonstrate a construc-
tive "spirit of full disclosure"
effort to clearly communicate
its financial story, enhance
understanding of the logic
underlying the traditional
governmental financial repor.
ting model, and motivate per-
sons and groups in society to
'read and use the CAFR.
Eligible CAFRs are eval-
uated by an impartial Special
Review Committee composed
of government finance of-
ficers, independent certified
public accountant, educators
and others with particular ex-
pertise in governmental ac-
counting and financial repor-
ting.
When a Certificate of Con-
formance is awarded to a
government, an, Award of
, Financial Reporting Achieve-
ment is also presented to the
individual designated by the
government as primarily
responsible for its having
earned the certificate. An
Award of Financial Reporting
Achievement has been award-
ed to: Jeanne A. Haapala, City
Accountant.

Cont. from page 6

CHARTER COMMISSION
Tt:1e Charter Commission
did not conduct any meetings
. in December, 1984 or January, '
1985.

.
t
i
t
.
I
t
1

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
COMMISSION
The Economic Develop.
ment Commission met on'
January 9, 1985 and as one of
the first items of business the
commission directed Anne
Norris to prepare a letter to
legislators "regarding
Ramsey's concerns in, the
areas of economic develop.
ment and the tax structure.
The commission reviewed
the rough draft of the city
brochure which is being
prepared to promote the com-
munity.

I
1
I
J
t

I
.'

The Economic Develop.
ment Commission conducted
a special meeting on January
24 to discuss and provide
more input on the city
brochure; a brochure subcom-
_ mittee was appointed to
'review the brochure draft in
detail.
The commission discussed
the fact that there is still a lot
of concern among the citi-
zens that municipal sewer
and water will be coming into
their neighborhoods; a mo.
tion was passed' to recom-
mend that city cou nci I
publish in the Tri-City News-
letter a city position state-
ment regarding municipal
sewer and water and the af-
fects to community residents.

Ramsey area
chu-rches'

Lord Of Life Lutheran
6139 157th Lane NW
Ramsey, M N 55303
Pastor Meeks
427 -8630 '

Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's
Witness
13751 Dolomite St. N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303
427 -3943

Cross of Hope Lutheran
. 5730 179th Lane NW
Ramsey, MN 55303
Pastor Olson
753-2057

Grace Community Church
6341 167th Ave. N.W.
Ramsey; MN 55303
Pastor Metzger
753-4475

Faith Baptist
15328 Hematite St. N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303
Pastor Reed
427-2960

Ramsey Youth
Athletic
Association

The Ramsey Youth Athletic
Association (RY AA) elected
its officers for 1985.
