Whe're's, Central- Park?

jJ

Where's Central Park? This
was an often heard question
at the start of this past sum-
mer's baseball season. Many
people, once they located the
park, were surprised to find
out that Ramsey has a good
start on developing an ex-
cellent park facility.
At the present time, there
are four nicely developed ball
fields. 'The ball fields also
have an underground irriga-
tion system. This should ~eal-
Iy help maintain a healthy
stand of grass rather than the,
usual sand burrs.
On game nights, the field
was really buzzing with activi-
ty.' Young ball players were
being dropped off. Parents
were bringing their lawn
chairs and blankets. Coaches

were hollering encouragment
to their young players.
Parents were urging their
young all-stars on. In fact, the
fields got quite an initiation
this first season. About 150
3rd-6th grade Ramsey boys
played on' Monday and
Wednesday nights. The girls
teams played on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Overall, the
first season at Cefltral Park
was a resounding success.
Central Park got it's start
when the Federal Cartridge
Corporation of Anoka donated
40 acres of land to the City for
park use. Ramsey certainly
appreciates this generous
donation. It was then deter-
mined that one of Ramsey's
greatest. needs .was ball
diamonds and playing fields.

The first phase of develop-
ment was designed to meet
these needs.
Further development' will
be done a,bit at a time due to
)imited funds for park
development. Future develop-
ment will include: lighting for
fields, 'tennis courts,
volleyball courts, hOCkey
rinks and free skating areas,
creative play equipment, pic-
nic areas, horseshoe pits, jog-
ging and bicycling trails and a
. central shelter area. Eventual-
ly, Ramsey will have a fully
developed park to meet the
recreational needs of the
community.
Oh, by the way, Central
Park is located at 161st
Avenue and Armstrong Blvd:
Stop by and take a look some
time! . .
