<br /> <br />- -- <br /> <br />- - - _..,..-. .-...- - - - ~--.-- <br /> <br />~ IIIIIII~ <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />....."""""'-: <br /> <br />Ramsey Resident - November, 1984 - Page 13 <br /> <br />l j <br /> <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Open House' at <br /> <br />/ <br /> <br />Students at Ramsey Elem- <br />entary School had an oppor- <br />tunity to introduce their <br />'., parents to their teachers' at <br />the school's 10th Annual <br />Open House', The event was <br />held on Thursday evening, Oc- <br />tober 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. <br />Activities. that evening in- <br />cluded a spaghetti dinner in <br />the cafeteria. 1,100 parents, <br />teachers and children were <br />served. <br />A book sale was held in the <br />school's Media Center where <br />approximately $1,600 worth of <br />children's literature was sold. <br />Pr.ofits from this sale will go <br />toward purchasing more <br /> <br />books and other items that <br />will make Ramsey School's <br />. library even more interesting. <br />The Rarnsey School Ad- <br />visory Council had a finger- <br />printing booth that, due to <br />overwhelming response, ran <br />out of materials' before the <br />evening was over. They will <br />offer the fingerprinting oppor- <br />tunity again in December at <br />the school's Santa Brunch. <br />The Picture Lady Program <br />was on display in the school <br />lobby. ) Several of the <br />program's volunteers were <br />available to explain the pro- <br />gram and answer parents' <br />questions. The eight prints <br /> <br /> <br />Bea Brown helps Megan Burkhammer get <br />fingerprinted. The free service is part of the <br />push to gain new techniques for identifying <br />children. '.. . . <br /> <br />Ramsey School <br /> <br />Advisory Council <br /> <br />The Ramsey School Ad- <br />visory Council, made up of <br />local residents, assists the <br />Ramsey School staff in meet- <br />ing the community's needs. <br />T~e Council helps in plan- <br />rii,ng and developing com- <br />munity programs, improving <br />communication between <br />school and community, and <br />promoting the concept of <br />community education. Listed <br />below are just several ex- <br />amples of the accomp- <br />lishments of the Council. <br /> <br />. 41';:: <br /> <br />Ramsey Elementary <br /> <br />are from the Minneapolis In- <br />stitute of Arts and present dif- <br />ferent ways women have been <br />depicted in art. The <br />volunteers have been visiting <br />grades 1-4 leading discus- <br />sions about the works with <br />the children. <br />A representative group <br />from the local Girl Scouts was <br />also on hand to explain their <br />programs to parents. <br />It was estimated that over <br />1,600 people were in atten- <br />dance, including Grandmas, <br />Grandpas, brothers, sisters <br />and many former Ramsey <br />School families. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />They are: , <br />-Child Fingerprinting <br />-Chemical People Task <br />Force <br />-Fundraising-School Equip- <br />ment <br />-Teacher Recognition Day <br />-Support for volunteer <br />MOMS program <br />Be part of shaping your <br />community.
