Election year is an exciting
time, and a time to make your
voice heard with your vote.
But as important as voting is,
it doesn't always give you the
voice you need. . .especially
between elections and on
issues that aren't on the
ballot.
The Anoka-Blaine-Coon
Rapids Area League, of
Women Voters can give you
that voice. We are a nonpar-
tisan voice that speaks out on
issues that affect our com-
munities, not just in an elec-
tion year...but every year... on
issues like hazardous waste
control, voting rights, and air
pollution.
We study many issues and
then come to an agreement
on them before we let govern-
ment know how we feel on
those issues. We help
educate ourselves and pro-
vide the public with informa,

tion on issues and candidates
in an election year.
The area League of Women
Voters meets twice monthly,
one group on the first Monday
evening of the month and the
other on the second Tuesday
morning of the month. A com-
bined 'group meets the 4th
Saturday of the month, 5
times a year. Our first group
meeting this year is' Sept.
22, from 8:3.0 - 10:30 a.m.
Remember, it takes more
than just marking a ballot to
make your mark on politics.
To find out more about the
League of Women Voters call
Kay McCulley at 427-3866 or
Nancy Carlson at 757-7817.

MAKE YOUR MARK
ON POLITICS
JOIN THE LEAGUE
WOMEN VOTERS

Star Trekkers organize

[ -

Ramsey headquarters the
only Starfleet ship (USS
Nokomis) in the State of Min-
nesota and is registered with
the sixth fleet out of Sioux
Falls, South Dakota. The USS
Nokomis is a Starfleet
chapter located in Ramsey.
Starfleet is an international
fan club for STAR TREK and is
a global organization.
Starfleet is broken down in-
to regions (called fleets) and
then into individual chapters.
Each chapter is run like a star-
ship with a captain and crew.
Members get together for
fund raising, role palying, and

charitable events. They hav",
monthly meetings and lots of
fun. It is the hope of the crew
to be able to host a STAR
TREK convention in the Twin-
City area sometime in the
near future.
