Election year is an exciting time

. Election year is an exciting
time, and a time to make your
voice heard with your vote.
But as important as voting is,
it doesn't always give you the
voice you need. . .especially
between elections and on
issues that aren't on the
ballot.
The Anoka-Blaine-Coon
Rapids Area League, of
Women Voters can give you
that voice. We are a nonpar-
tisan voice that speaks out on
issues that affect our com-
munities, not just in an elec-
tion year...but every year... on
issues like hazardous waste
control, voting rights, and air
pollution.
We study many issues and
then come to an agreement
on them before we let govern-
ment know how we feel on
those issues. We help
educate ourselves and pro-
vide the public with informa,

tion on issues and candidates
in an election year.
The area League of Women
Voters meets twice monthly,
one group on the first Monday
evening of the month and the
other on the second Tuesday
morning of the month. A com-
bined 'group meets the 4th
Saturday of the month, 5
times a year. Our first group
meeting this year is' Sept.
22, from 8:3.0 - 10:30 a.m.
Remember, it takes more
than just marking a ballot to
make your mark on politics.
Members get together for
fund raising, role palying, and

charitable events. They hav",
monthly meetings and lots of
fun. It is the hope of the crew
to be able to host a STAR
City area sometime in the
near future. The Nokomis'
Ramsey Jaycee receives award

Last February, the Ramsey
Jaycees held their first
chapter social. . Eighteen
members of the chapter and
six special guests took part in
a sleigh ride. After the sleigh
ride, President Dale McKnight
grilled T-bones; it was only
seventeen degrees above
zero. "Jaycees know how to
have FUN."
For every project that a
Jaycee chapter runs, a book is
compiled. This book contains
answers to eighteen ques-
tions pertaining to the project
in three areas, planning, im-
plementation and evaluation.
The book also contains all
. substantiating materials,
photographs and the propos-
ed and actual budgets. These
books are then submitted for
judging.
The book for the sleigh ride
was submitted at year end in
the Chapter Activities
category. It took first place at
the district level, and first
place in the State of Min-
nesota. From there the book'

/
Jaycee project, Kathy McKnight, author, receives state and national honors.

went to Atlanta, GA to be
judged by the United States
Jaycees, and in June, we
received a first place award
for this project form the U.S.
Jaycees. There was also a
first place Chairman's award

presented to the author-
chairman, Kathy McKnight.

This project book will now
be sent to Montreal, Canada
for judging at the 1984
