Represen-
tative Ernie Larson (DFL
Anoka), a member of the
Regulated Industries Commit-
tee was also in attendance.
Representative Gordon Voss
(DFL Blaine) chairman of the
House Energy Committee
stated that the purpose of the
tour was to give legislators
and opportunity to see the
numerous changes that have
been made in the manufac-
tured/mobile home industry.

The day long event includ-
ed a tour of the newest mobile
home park in the Metroplitan
area, the Rolling Hills
Manufactured Housing Com-
m u n i ty in Mapl ewood.
, Discussions at the 246 site
park involved park design,
. management practices, storm
shelter design and home in-
stallations. The owner,
Richard Pearson, pointed out
the tremendous demand for
this type of housing alter-
native as witnessed by the
long waiting list of persons
trying to rent a lot in the park.
The tour also included a
tour of the Schult Home
Manufacturing Facility in
Redwood Falls, MN. The
legislators watched the con-
struction of the homes, the
use of quality materials, and
discussed the inspection pro-
cess. Mr. Jim Toth, General
Manager of Schult Homes ex-
plained that "manufac-
tured/mobile homes are con-
structed to the rigid construc-
tion, durability and safety re-
. quirements of the Department
of Housing and Urban
Developement (HUD). Pro-
ducing homes under factory
controlled conditions with the
latest in efficient production
techniques, the manufactured
housing industry is atile to
build year-round without inter-
ruptions from weather and
with the highest degree of
. quality control. All of these
economies mean that the
consumer can buy more hous-
ing for less money."

numbered and even have
names on them. This is
wonderful and' looks ever so
nice, but unless you put up ar-
rows and signs pointing
towards which house is
yours, such markings don't
help a bit. And the two inch
letters intertwined in the
rosemaling alongside your en-
tryway at the end of a 100' foot
driveway leaves much to be
desired. Please put up some
nice, visible, house numbers.
It will be you who benefits!!

JUST $7898
20 LTD's

Just

$8998

Where are you?

There are any number of
homes in Ramsey which still
do not have house numbers,
either on the house or on a
mailbox or post. . Coon Rapids. Mn.

1-

The tour ended at the site
of a manufactured/mobile
home that was located in a
residential subdivision within
the City of Redwood Falls.
The home was placed on a full
basement and had an attach-
ed two-car garage. State
Representative Gordon Voss
(DFL Blaine), chairman Of the
House Energy and Housing
Committee, noted that the
home was a direct result of
the State Law passed in 1982
prohibiting descrimination by
cities and 'counties on the
siting of manufactured
homes. Representative Voss
stated that "Manufac-
tured/mobile homes built to
the HUD construction stan-
dard are becoming com-
parable in quality and design
with homes built on site. The
manufactured housing in-
dustry is emerging as an ex-
cellent affordable single fami-
ly housing alternative for Min-
nesota."
The National Conference of
States on Building Codes and
Standards' statistics indicate
that manufactured homes
shipped to retail centers in
Minnesota in 1983 increased
by 36% over 1982. The
number of manufactured
homes shipped in .1984 to
date h.as increased an addi-
tional 16% over the 1983
figures. Paul Howard, Presi-
dent of the Minnesota
Manufactured Housing
Association, commented that
the "Legislators and State of-
ficials are very interested in
manufactured homes
because factory built housing
is, as indicated by the in-
creased number of sales, the
quality housing which
reduces the housing affor-
dability gap and is allowing
persons to own a home of
their own."

"'"

.
