Friday & Saturday 11 A.M.- 1 A.M. t t t t t t "AN END TO THE RUMORS" I appreciate the calls I have been inundated with regarding sewer and water...attempts to varify the fal- lacies being spread through the City by a group of people looking for a cause to rally behind is a sure sign of intelligence. I don't think I've ever seen so much twisting of statements, ridicu- lous accusations and quotes taken out of context as I've seen being done by a group of residents. That someone gets a charge out of telling senior citizens that the COUNCIL is going to connect them to water and sewer next week and cal-. lously throw them out in the street is SICKENING! More unjust is the attempts to blame Bob Muller of bringing out the sewer line so he can build a shopping mall. There are very few people in Ramsey (I can't think of any) who have done SO much for our fellow residents and this callous disregard for his reputation is a sign of the lengths people will go to for attention. To set the record straight, Bob has dedicated one acre and a quarter of a million dollars to utilize the latest technology in on-site systems SIMPLY TO ELIMINATE THE NEED TO EVER HOOK UP TO SEWER! Unfortunately, I have to admit that none of the Councilmembers own any land at the intersection Highway #47 and Industrial Blvd. If I did own acreage in undeveloped areas of Ramsey I'd probably save it for the 100 foot stacks we're planning on using to turn Ramsey into 'Visions of Pittsburgh'. And also for the record, none of us are being fed through the back door by corrupt developers (we're still slaving away like the rest of you), nor are we attempting to 'cover' things until they become reality. Either lit' is a fire or we have a Berlin Wall erected that can stop the Metro Council from pushing this pipe through. Sewer pipes actually move very slowly. The point to consider is 'Where is it go- ing?' Ramsey is in the delectable position of being the northwest border of the Metro Area...there's no one beyond us waiting for that pipe. Another point to give thoughtful consideration to is 'flowage'. There does not happen to be a DEMAND for flowage capacity. At this point in time, Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, Champlin, etc. all still have areas which are not sewered. Another cute one is 'country atmos- phere'. I too love my little area and want to keep it 'my little acre' , not my 'little ~ acre'. But although we all love space we are also spoiled into wanting better parks, more ball fields, better road maintenance, police protection, air raid sirens, a fire department, convenient shop- ping, bus lines, places for our chil- dren to live and work, etc. etc. The list of City conveniences that we desire goes on and on. If you take a good look at what the City of Ramsey is doing you will dis- cover that we are trying to make it all possible. By careful planning, we will be able to create the tax base necessary for some of our desires and STILL keep our 'little acres'. By looking at Ramsey's past record you will discover that we run one of the best planned and most efficient cities in the State of Minnesota. Our careful planning and conservation has avoided mistakes made by other cities in the past. If you take a look at your Council- members you wil~ find a group of fiVe residents who put mountains of time into considering the BEST INTERESTS OF RAMSEY AS A WHOLE. Unfortunately, none of us were born in Heaven and that leaves us subject to human error ...but we try! If you're unsatisfied with our decisions then by all means ...don't vote for us. By the same token...don't threaten our children wi th violence as some have. Children don't understand such childishness in adults. Please keep in mind, before you press the panic button, to contact City Hall or your representatives the next time people try to cause a mass riot in Ramsey simply to full- fill their cravings for attention... we give out FACTS not falacies. For our part we will use the Resi- dent to keep you abreast of the latest developments as they take shape. There are also maps avail- able at City Hall showing proposed sewer development within Ramsey. done with the Resident was a pretty asinine move. And now for some facts: In the early 1970's, the City began properly planning for the development of an Urban Service Area. That planning consisted of first insuring that the metro in- terceptor served Ramsey as it serves other cities in the Metro Area. (The construction of that facility is strictly the responsi- bility of the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission.) The second phase of that planning was to not allow development that would prematurely create a need for sewer in Ramsey. Certain developments in the Urban Service Area were delayed because of the forthcoming availability of City sewer, which at one point was anticipated as early as 1980. At present, the proposed sewer service area (1983) does not in- clude any plans for sewer in a res- idential development. The earliest plan for sewer in a residential area includes the developments of Ramsey Terrace and Flintwood Hills which is tentatively set for 1988. BUT THERE ARE NO INTENTIONS ON THE PART OF THE RAMSEY CITY COUNCIL TO SEWERTHESEDEVEWP~TSORANY OTHER EXISTING ONES even at that time...unless a DEFINITE NEED is established. DEFINITE NEED would be septic system failures or contaminated wells. The City assessment ordinance is being established at this time to further insure proper planning for the City of Ramsey. This ordinance will not only protect the citizens of Ramsey but will require those individuals planning development in the Urban Service Area to finance the project COMPLETELY. For the majority of the residents of Ramsey I would say that you'll be dead before the pipe gets to your house but I know that statement would be misinterpreted to mean we're plan- ning a Jamestown Massacre in the near future.
