sport 5 wrest 11n9 On Sunday February 13th, the 9th Annual Snowflake Wrestling Tournament was held at Coon Rapids Senior High School. There were 200 to 250 boys who participated from areas such as Anoka, Coon Rapids, St. Francis, Cedar, Blaine, Mpls. and Prescott wLsc .. Each boy wrestled three times as places were determined from 1st to 4th. All par- tici~nts received ribbons. Ramsey was represented by Matt Chester, a sixth grader at Sandburg Middle School, who won in the 95 pound division. Matt wrestles for the Herakles Wrestling Club which prac- tices at Northdale Jr. High on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm. The tournament was open to 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders. GirlS +locneg On Feb. 5th the Anoka Girls had their first lose to Bloomington 5-2. Tracy Dahl did a very good job as goalie. Allison Givens scored the 2 points for Anoka. Feb. 6th Anoka managed a win against Minne- apolis West by a score of 4-3. Bridgett Wolfe had a hat trick and Allisen Givens got a goal. Sara Clouse did a very good job as goalie. On Feb. 14th Anoka and Bloomington met for the third time. With each team sporting a win it was a very important game for both teams! Anoka won 6-3. Dina Hoel scored along with Jill Peifer and Allisen Givens had 4 goals. Goalie was Sara Clouse and she did an outstanding job. Feb. 19th Anoka beat Hopkins/Edina B-O. Sheri Stringfellow was goalie and those scoring were Wendi TheIl with 2 goals and 2 assists, Bridgett Wolfe with 2 goals and 1 assist, Dina Boel had 1 goal, Heidi Alsdurf with her first goal of the season, Sara Clouse made 1 goal and Allisen Givens 1 goal Feb. 27th brought the last scheduled game for the Anoka Girls and they went all out and beat Minneapolis East 15-2. Donna Bredemus was goalie and those scoring were: Sheri Stringfellow for her first goal of tRe season, Wendi TheIl with her third hat trick of the season, Bridgett Wolfe with her se- cond hat trick of the season and an extra goal, Anne Mess had her first goal of the season, Heidi Alsdurf 1 goal, Sara Clouse with her first hat trick of the season and Allisen Givens with 2 goals. The Girls have finished the year with a 10-1 record and ended up in first place. CON G RAT U L A T ION S G I R L S ! ! * * * * * * * * * * * * On March 27th the Anoka Area Girls will be hosting a Pee Wee Hockey tournament at the Anoka Arena from 2:30 until 9:45 pm.. They will be playing a round robin of i an hour games on a point system. Those teams in the tournament are Bloomington, Edina/Hopkins Minneapolis East, Minneapolis West and Anoka. We invite everyone to the tournament, ad- mission is free. Please come and see what girls hockey is all about. Come and cheer the Anoka Girls on" sommer 5Dftba" Registration for the RYAA boy's softball league will be at the Ramsey Elementary School on March 22nd and 24th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm.. The league is open to boys living in Ramsey who are now in grades 5-12. Boy's registration is early because the season will start earlier than the girl's softball season. You may also sign up for boy's softball, (5th-12th grade, girl's softball (3rd-9th grade), baseball (3rd - 9th grade), and soccer (K-3rd grade) at the Pancake Breakfast on March 27th. For further information contact Jack Beissel at 753-1041. -Jack Beissel softball BOY'S SOFTBALL The Ramsey Youth Athletic Association (RYAA) will sponsor boy's softball for the first time this summer. The league will be formed with teams from Champlin, Dayton, Anoka and Ramsey. All games will be played at Champlin. Because of the transportation problems in- volved with the games in Champlin, the teams will be selected by neighborhood. Teams will be made up of 5-6th grade boys, 7-8-9th grade boys and 10-11-12th grade boys. The season will start in mid-May and end by the 4th of July. Registration fee will be $15. Registration will be held the week before the pancake breakkfast and during the pan- cake breakfast - March 27th. You may register now by filling out the form below and calling Jack Beissel, 753-1041, for pick-up. - HOUSe, ~ague BLACK HAWKS Ramsey Mites-House League Ice Action FEBRUARY 7, 1983 The Ramsey Blackhawks suffered a 4-3 loss to the C.D. Canadians in an exciting game. The Champlin-Dayton team took the lead 2-0, but the Blackhawks made a come back and tied the score 2-2. We couldn't hold them though as they scored two more goals. Jason Rein- holz was able to put the puck in the net for our third goal giving him the hat trick for the night. Scott Martinson was our goalie of the night. He did a great job clearing the puck. FEBRUARY 17, 1983 Ramsey Blackhawks met the Ramsey Mapleleafs for a 3-2 win. The Leafs took the lead in the game play, but the Hawks were able to come back with a strong play by Mike Pozega as he skated the puck in from the red line to make our first goal. We made the win with the two goals made by Jason Reinholz. Our goilie for the game, Dean Karlsen, had a strong game along with all of the other playet'.s . FEBRUARY 22, 1983 The Ramsey Blackhawks faced off against the Ramsey Rangers in a fantastic tie game. The Rangers held the lead when Scott Martinson took the puck from the blue line aile!-- put it in the net for our first goal. The RanQers kept their lead until Jason Reinholz was able to put the puck in the net with only two min utes left in the game giving the Hawks a 2-2 tie. Goalie Matt Davis did a super job defen~ ding the nets. KEEP UP THE SPIRIT BLACKHAWKS!!! -Joyce Hetland RAMSEY RANGERS PEE WEE DIV. The Ramsey Rangers (Pee-Wee div.) coached by Gene Whitacker and assistant coaches Bill Bina and Norm Thunell beat Princeton in a tournament held at the Princeton Arena on February 11, 1983. With hat tricks by Bryce Thunell and Geoff Whitacker along with goals by Chris Frolik, Bill Laininan and Tom McFarland they helped goalie Scott Schara in a shut out victory.
