<br />BOY'S SOFTBALL
<br />
<br />The Ramsey Youth Athletic Association (RYAA)
<br />will sponsor boy's softball for the first time
<br />this summer.
<br />The league will be formed with teams from
<br />Champlin, Dayton, Anoka and Ramsey.
<br />All games will be played at Champlin.
<br />Because of the transportation problems in-
<br />volved with the games in Champlin, the teams
<br />will be selected by neighborhood.
<br />Teams will be made up of 5-6th grade boys,
<br />7-8-9th grade boys and 10-11-12th grade boys.
<br />The season will start in mid-May and end by
<br />the 4th of July.
<br />Registration fee will be $15.
<br />Registration will be held the week before
<br />the pancake breakkfast and during the pan-
<br />cake breakfast - March 27th.
<br />You may register now by filling out the
<br />form below and calling Jack Beissel, 753-1041,
<br />for pick-up.

<br />grades 3-6. Duti.es consist of scheduling the
<br />coach's meeting, ciispensing equipment and wor-
<br />king on the tournament. Any interested parent

<br />The Anoka PeeWee Girls continued to dominate
<br />league play by bumping off Mpls. West 8-2
<br />on Jan. 15, 1983. Wendy TheIL lead the W1Y
<br />with the first goal followed by Allisen Givens
<br />posting her second had trick of the seaso:!.
<br />Coming on strong to score her first goal was
<br />Jill Peifer, as Bridgett Wolfe added one more
<br />goal. Goalie Donna Bredemus did a super job on
<br />holding Mpls. West to two goals.
<br />On Jan. 22, 1983, the PeeWee girls did it
<br />again by beating Bloomington. Robin Blake
<br />fired up the team by scoring the first goal.
<br />Sparked and ready to go Allisen Givens connec-
<br />ted with two goals of her own. Sara Clouse
<br />corning late in the game from a swimming meet
<br />scored a goal to sew up the game making the
<br />final score Anoka 4 Bloomington 2.
<br />Anoka crushed Mpls. East by beating them
<br />7-0. Coming on strong, Wendi TheIL achieved
<br />her first hat trick. While Bridgette Wolfe
<br />added two goals of her own, team mate Melanie
<br />Alsdurf assisted by Wendi TheIL scored one as
<br />did Donna Brede~us assisted ~y Jill Peifer.
<br />Goalie Allisen Givens played a strong game.
<br />Still on a winning streak the Anoka PeeWee
<br />girls went against Hopkins, Edina. Wendi TheIL
<br />scored the first goal to spark her team. Gere-
<br />rating enthusiasm, Bridgette Wolfe connected
<br />
<br />with two goals and one assist. As Sara Clouse
<br />added a goal with an assist from Tracy Dahl.
<br />Also corning on strong, teammate, Allisen
<br />Givens gor her third hat trick of the season,
<br />while goalie Jill Peifer got her first shut-out.

<br />Sandberg's 7th grade basketball team, the
<br />Ramsey Tempest, beat the Coon Rapids Robins--
<br />57 - 16
<br />Craig Sandness scored 40 baskets!!!
<br />
<br />
<br />The Ramsey Blackhawks played against the
<br />C.D. Canuks on February 2, 1983 and had a
<br />super win over the Champlin-Dayton team as
<br />they skated to a 7-3 victory. The Blackhawks
<br />really fired up after the Canuks had a 1-0
<br />lead. We carne back with goals being made by
<br />Phil Thoreson, Tony Bianchi-Rossi and Todd
<br />Dusosky. Our defensemen had a fantastic
<br />game with Jason Reinholz and Mark Hetland
<br />each putting the puck in the nets twice for
<br />four of our goals. Our goalie of the night,
<br />Ryan Hanson, did a great job in the nets.

<br />The Ramsey Jets, House League PeeWees, par-
<br />ticipated in the Little Apple PeeWee tourna-
<br />ment the weekend of Jan. 29-30. The first game
<br />saw Ramsey take a tough 5-4 loss to the Inver
<br />Grove Hills team. Robby Wahlberg scored twice
<br />with Chris Madzey and Scott Locy each adding
<br />one goal.
<br />In the first round of consolation play the
<br />Jets tied Apple Valley at the end of regulation
<br />play and one overtime period. During the en-
<br />suing shoot-out, Ricky Kreyer scored on the
<br />Apple Valley goalie while goalie Troy Lennan-
<br />der allowed no goals.
<br />In the consolation championship game Ramsey
<br />lost 5-2 to Rosemount. Robby Wahlberg and Ricky
<br />Kreyer scored for the jets.
<br />The rest of the tea~ consisted of: Andy Beis-
<br />sel, Marty Davis, Sean Kennedy, John Myhre,
<br />Carl Peterson, Eric Schanno, Kris Schmitt. The
<br />Jets are coached by Lee Lennander.

<br />Participating in the Rosemount "Fighting
<br />Irish" tourney, Anoka's B1 PeeWees won the
<br />first match against a strong Burnsville team
<br />3-2 in overtime. Mark Westman & Jeff Greer
<br />connected for the first goal as defenseman
<br />Jeff Bickford blasted in the tying goal
<br />late in the third period to throw the game
<br />into overtime. Steve Gamer stuffed the puck
<br />in the net to provide the game winning goal.
<br />After skating scoreless for nearly three
<br />periods against Farmington, a determined Chris
<br />Weiss gave Anoka 2 goals with less than a
<br />minute and a half on the clock, but Farming-
<br />ton came back and scored the game winner with
<br />14 seconds left. Playinf for third place
<br />against Rosemount, J.C. Green scored Anoka's
<br />lone goal in a 3-1 loss.
<br />
<br />In District 10 league games, the B! PeeWees
<br />fell behind 2-0 to Spring Lake Park before
<br />defenseman Greg Dorwart lit up the board on
<br />a pass from Weiss. Chris Warner and Westman
<br />teamed up for the tying goal but Spring Lake
<br />again took the lead in the 3rd period until
<br />Green and Steve Bollman clicked and put the
<br />puck in the net helping Anoka claim a 3-3
<br />game final.

<br />Anoka's B2 PeeWees defeated St. Anthony 5-2
<br />as Chuck Stoeckel and Brad Fillipi fired in
<br />two goals each and Tony Gargano scored the
<br />game winning goal. Displaying strong team ef-
<br />fort, Ryan Klohn, Mike Millar, Kevin Oja,
<br />and Andy Frisell provided assists. Against
<br />Blaine 11, Gargano, Mark Millar and Chuck
<br />Stoeckel gave Anoka a 3 goal lead before
<br />Blaine came on and handed them a 3-3 tie.
<br />
<br />Steve Magnusson sparked the "A" Squirts,
<br />racking up 5 goals and 1 assist in a 9-3 vic-
<br />tory over Blaine. Bart Johnson, Chad Abram,
<br />Scott Hookom and Bobby Ross all netted goals
<br />as Matt Dennie, Hookom and Darell Schwalenberg
<br />contributed assists. Defensemen Jimmy Stoeckel
<br />and Jesse Knox played strong games for Anoka.
<br />Meantime, the B2 Bantams saw a 2 goal lead
<br />provided by Tim Reifenberger and Eric Oja
<br />flattened out to a 2-2 game final against Elk
<br />River. John Roehl and Doug Melberg earned
<br />assists. Up against Mora in an extremely hard
<br />hitting and penalty ridden game, the B2's
<br />spotted Mora 2 goals before Schott Chelberg
<br />and Doug Melberg teamed up to put Anoka on the
<br />board. Reifenberger, Chelberg, John Erchul
<br />and Melberg each added goals for a game final
<br />of 5-2. Their league record is now 5-5-3.
<br />
<br />In other league games, the "B" Squirts were
<br />the 5-3 victors in a match with Mora. Andy
<br />Halverson's hustle throughout the game pro-
<br />vided 2 goals and 1 assist as Greg Berres,
<br />Jim Benson and Joey Hustevedt netted a goal
<br />each. Goalie Jason Plumley kicked out 23 shots
<br />to preserve the victory. Despite finding them-
<br />
<br />selves behind 7-0 in a game against Blaine,
<br />Jeremy Coe picked off a rebound behind the
<br />net,and stuffed the puck in to soil a shut-
<br />out with less than 3 minutes left on the
<br />clock.
<br />
<br />The B midgets lost to North St. Paul 5-3
<br />despite the 2 goals of Geoff Palmer and
<br />single goal of Jeff Milani. In a stunning
<br />come-back performance, the midgets blasted
<br />Coon Rapids I 5-2 as Steve Hamacher and John
<br />Struck fired in 2 goals each and Ron Marsolais
<br />tallied one.
<br />
<br />The "Pumpkin Classic" Tournament for "A" &
<br />"B" Midgets was held at Anoka Arena this past
<br />weekend. Results: "b" Midgets-Championship:
<br />Thunderbay over Jefferson 4-2. Third place:
<br />Blaine over Anoka 6-2, Consolation: Winnipeg
<br />over Park Center 9-0. For the "a" division it
<br />was Winnipeg over Moundsview 5-4 (overtime)
<br />for the championship, Anoka over Fridley 7-2
<br />for third Place and Roseville over Apple
<br />Valley 9-0 for the consolation winner. A spe-
<br />cial thanks to Tom & Linda Engfer, Jan & Roy
<br />Denni~, Kathy & Chet Hetland and Bill & Karen
<br />Weiss for their efforts to put this suc-
<br />cessful tourney together. Last but not least,
<br />thanks to Mary Hamacher who organized the
<br />very well attended "Hospitality" room and
<br />all who gave of their time to ensure a
<br />great time for everyone attending.
