The first day of school starts out with an
all school assembly. Usually there is a guest
speaker, this year it was Governor Al Quie.
There are many other things that happen, for
instance; Senibr Cheri Mead said, nI like it
when the band marches in on the first day
of school.n
Another tradition is Homecoming, in which
there is a football game and a dance following
it. Before Homecoming, the student body picks
their choice of Homecoming Royalty, which are
presented at the football game.
The Pumpkin Bowl football game follows in
the tradition of Anoka's claim of being the
Halloween Capitol of the world.
During the week before Christmas vacation
there are many traditions, like carolers
singing through the hallways, students dressing
up as elves and the giving of candy canes to
friends. There are also various concerts given
by the choir, band and orchestra.
On Valentines Day the people of Anoka High
School can give carnations to their favorite
friends. Also in February is Morp, which is
Prom spelled backwards. In fact everything
about Morp is backwards. For example the girls
ask the guys to go to Morp with them. During
the week before Morp there are various dress
up days. For instance, on one fo the days it
was hat and sweat day.
Although these traditions are repeated year
after year, the people at AHS never seem to
tire of them. But of course traditions wouldn't
be repeated if people didn't like them.
The township was organized in 1857 and named
Watertown but changed by the Anoka County
Commissioners to Dover on Nov. 15, 1858 and
later that year changed to Ramsey for the man
who was territorial Governor.

The day will com~ when my body will lie upon
a white sheet neatly tucked under the four
corners of a mattress located in a hospital
busily occupied with the living and the dying.
At a certain moment a doctor will determine
that my brain has ceased to function and that
for all intents and purposes, my life has
stopped.
When that happens, do not attempt to instill
artificial life into my body by the use of a
machine. And don't call this my deathbed. Let
it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body
be taken from it to help others lead fuller
lives.
Give my sight to the man who has never
seen a sunrise, a baby's face or the love In
the eyes of a woman. Give my blood to the
teen-ager who was pulled from the wreckage
of his car. so that he might live to see his
grandchildren play. Give my kidneys to one
who depends on a machine to exist from week
to week. Take my bones, every muscle, fiber
and nerve in my body and find a way to make a
crippled child walk.
Explore every corner of my brain. Take my
cells, if necessary and let them grow so
that someday, a speechless boy will shout at
the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear
the sound of rain against her window.
Burn what is left of me and scatter the
ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow.
If you must bury something, let it be my
faults, my weaknesses and all prejudices
against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to
God.
If, by chance, you wish to reme.ber .e, do
it with a kind deed or word to so.eone who
needs you. If you do all I have asked, !
will live forever.
