CITIZEN'S COLUMN

I

MAYOR con' t from pg 1

This coming year of 1983, will pro-
bably be one of the most important
years in planning the development of
our City. We have formed special com....
missions and Ad Hoc Committees to
look into all of the concerns pre-
viously mentioned. This has helped
us to get more people involved in
our City planning. I feel it is im-
portant to have the residents under-
stand the problems that face our
Council and to have them involved
in planning Ramsey's growth.
In the following issues of the
Ramsey Resident, we will try to high-
light each of these concerns and
what our goals are for them. I know
each City Councilmember would wel-
come any comments or concerns you
may have. Please feel free to con-
tact me or any of the Councilmem-
bers.

by helping to change a situation or
by reinforcing.
Have you had an occasion to use the
911 number? A friend tells me 'that his
family was very impressed by the quick
response they received during the ear-
ly hours a few weeks back. That speaks
highly for our police department and
for the Countv. I hi'lvP rpC"!p i vp-d aood
reports about the fine job the street
department did after our big snowfall.
A big THANK YOU for your continued
good service to our community.
SNOWMOBILES! Be sure to use your
hand signals and slow down at those
intersections, they will be high with
snow for some time. Motorists must als
take precaution in moving out into
side street intersections too.
It is good to see neighbor helping
neighbor and isn't this the season whe
some neighbors need more help than
others? Help a neighbor when youcan--
it's good to see it happening.
Let me hear from you if I can help
via this column or letter to keep the
doors of communication open.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

1983 is here and for some of us
there will be changes--good ones I
hope. As your elected representative
on the City Council I will strive to
make my position viable, strong,
productive, and positive--working
with the well-being of our City in
mind.
It is my personal desire to streng-
then the relationship our citizens
have with one another and with the
City government. The Ramsey Resi-
dent could be a means by which we
can all beco~e better informed a-
bout our community; it's individuals,
it's functioning, it's changes, it's
problems; the negative and positive.
This particular column is intended
to give you an opportunity to help
keep the doors of communications
open. Do you have a question or con-
cern? Ask it or express it. write me
and I will use the column to bring to
attention your concerns and questions
that may just be the same as someone
else's. If you want a personal reply;
say so and I will answer you via the
mail. Share with us the positive and
the negative--both can serve a purpose

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
REFLECTIONS con't from pg 1

deadlines two weeks prior to that
meeting, the schedule of agenda that
appears in the Resident will not in-
clude those items that come in after.
So bear that in mind--it's a rough
agenda printed in the Resident.
Outside of gov't news we will have
the following catagories;'OPEN LET-
TERS': This is a place for the let-
ters you send us expressing your opi-
nion. please remember that only sig-
ned letters can be printed.
The 'ANNOUNCEMENTS': This section
will contain all the birth, engage-
ment, marriage, death, military and
scholarship announcements that you
send in. please include your phone
number in case we need to verify any
information.
The 'YOUTH SECTION': Is for those
under 18 who have something to share
from a joke to an accomplishment,
this page belongs to the Youth of
Ramsey.
The 'CITIZEN'S COLUMN': Is desig-
ned to answer your questions per-
taining to government.
'RESIDENT TO RESIDENT': Has been
designated as a place to share ideas
and helpful hints that worked well
for you.
If you have anymore ideas of what
you'd like to see in the Resident,
contact me at 753-4034.
The idea has been tossed back and
forth that this is a small town ven-
ture and I guess I'd like to address
that at Ramsey Resident's beginning.
I'm not going to deny that it is,
we're certainly not national or sta-
tewide, we're not weekly or daily
either. What we are is a Country
City, something that's rather unique.
We're a City that is spread out over
many square miles and we like what
we've got--plenty of space and the
friendliest people around and I can't
think of anywhere else I'd rather
live (an island in the South Pacific
is tempting in January though).
Our major problem out here is one
of communications, we have no 'Main
Street' and we're divided out among
eleven schools that makes it pretty
difficult to know what's going on.
And that's the purpose of the Resi-
dent---sharing our news, triumphs,
thoughts and ideas with each other.

--Sue VanWagner
