BURNING
PERMITS

Many residents in Ramsey are experiencing difficulty in
obtaining burning permits for the disposal of oak wilt debris. The
authority to issue these permits is with the lVIinnesota Polution
Control Agency. The difficulty results from meeting the
regulations in AirPolution Control Rules, Chapter 8, Open
Burning. The most restrictive porti,on of these Rules is, a permit
cannot be issued if the site is within 600 feet of an occupied
residence other than those located on the property on which the
burning is located. The Ramsey City Council is now in the
process of attempting to establish municipal sites in convenient
locations to allow residents some means of disposal.
It is emphasized to Ramsey residents that prior to cutting trees
from their property they check with City Hall about means of
disposal. It is possible that due to dry weather conditions burning
permits of any kind may be difficult to obtain.

~"
~.

RAMSEY
PLANNING
ACTIVITIES

Planning activities will continue to be a topic of discussion at
local Plannil'lg Commission and City Council meetings over the
next several months. Department of Natural Resources Wild, Scenic and
Recreational Rivers management plan which represents an
overlap of regulations with the Governor's Critical Rivers
Designation.
All of these activities represent monumental planning decisi.ons
which must be made. Currently, City officials are negotiating
with the Metropolitan Council to resolve differences in planning
judgment such as population projections, urban service needs,
housing forecasts,employment forecasts and transportation
planning. Some planning assistance funds will be available to the
City to compensate for costs, however, amounts and total cost
analysis have not been determined yet.

RAMSEY'S NEWS IS AIRED
EACH WEEK ON KANO
Kathy Schneider gives a
broadcast each Thursday at 12:45
p.m. on KANO Radio.
