Project PAT

WHAT IS PROJECT PAT?
PARENTS ARE TEACHERS, or Project
PAT, is a unique center based parent-
child program through District No. 11
Community Education in cooperation
with the Anoka Area A VTI. It is designed
for children 0-5 years of age and their
parents. .

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT
FROM PAT?
Three basic expectations andlor objec-
tives guide the program's implementation
for parents of all children 0-48 months.
1. To assist parents in forming reasonable
expectations for their child's develop-
ment.
Z. To offer parents basic principals for in-
tervening selectively in their child's
learning activity.
,3. To provide parents with opportunities
to practice skills for meeting their own
and their child's needs in day.to, day
situations.

WHAT HAPPENS AT
PROJECT PAT?
Parents and children learn together,
primarily through active participation.
The PAT year is broken into four phases
that families progress through. The first
phase is:
1. Parent Orientation
The parent orientation will give
parents a chance to become acquainted
with other parents in their group and
to learn more about the program.

2. Play Phase (October-November)
During this phase, the main topic is
"Play" -what is is, how it develops,
'how individual children do it. It is also
a time for trust building.

3. Observation phase
(November-February)
Here the emphasis is on parents spend-
ing time in a q\1ality way by observing,
the uniqueness of their individual
child. The reasons for observing and
how to do it are learned.
4. Discussion Group Phase
(February-May)
This is a time when parents and staff
zero-in on specific topics of interest to
them as parents. A special time is set
aside to be apart from the children in a
comfortable environment for discus-
sion.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Classes will only enroll six to eight
families; registration is therefore limited.
For full registration procedure, turn to
pages 2 and 3 of this brochure and fill out
