RAMSEY SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM Will EXPAND Titterud Park F~)rd Brook Park Peltzer Park Shawn Acres Park Whispering Pines Park plus: 3 other park locations to be announced A complete description of all summer recreation activities will be mailed to you during the week of May 18. Check that brochure for specific days, time and locations. . This summer will tind. Ramsey' s "Recreation on Wheels" progr;ll1l expanding to include a total of eight park sites. Each of the eight locations will operate playground actiyities two mornings per week which will center on a variety of creatiye craft activities plus games and other special events. The recreation on wheels concept was started last summer in Ramsey and received enthusiastic support at each of the four locations used. This type of program is designed to make use of existing park facilities and make summer recreation activities more easily accessible to the people. Children are encouraged to walk or ride a bike to the park. It also gives youth a chance to get to know other people.in their neighborhood. This summer's program which will begin the week of June 15-19, will be held at the following park locations: RAMSEY SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL FUNCTIONS EFFECTIVELY IN DUAL ROLE From its inception in the Fall of 1978, the Ramsey School Advisory Council has served as an important and effective communication link between school and community. It was begun with a dual purpose in mind: 1.) to serve as an liaison group for the kindergarten through fourth grade regular school program and, 2.) to act as an advisory group for the community education program which serves the entire-city_of Ramsey. Most of the elementary schools in District No. 11 have a Parent group of some sort which provides input to the regular school program. All community schools also have an advisory group which helps determine program needs and sponsors a variety of family activities at the school. The intent of Ranlsey's organization was to form one group which could perform both functions rather than having two separate groups working independently. The concept has proven to be very effective thus far at Ramsey. Some of the major K-4 business has included providing input. on the problem of school facility usage, helping to support and coordinate an extensive volunteer program at the school and providing input on a variety of other issues such as the transition to Sandburg Middle School, school lunch program and development of a program for gifted and talented students. In addition to this, the advisory council has been involved in sponsoring three major family events during the school year. They have helped to sponsor the Halloween Celebration in October and have planned and organized the Santa's Brunch in December and Fanlily Fun Day in March. Advisory Council members are also providing volunteer assistance at the montWy movie matinees held at the -school. The major fund raising event of the year is Family Fun Day which this year raised approximately$2,OOO to be used to pay for special school lyceums and other programs at Ramsey. The Ramsey School Advisory Council is a group of hard working, dedicated and caring people who do much to make both the K-4 and community education programs at Ramsey operate smoothly and for the benefit of all. Meetings are held one evening each month at the school, and the public is cordially invited to attend. Your help and input is essential in keeping the total education program at Ramsey School responsible to the needs and interests of the people it serves. SPRING, 1981 Ramsey Jaycee Women Summer is soon upon us and most people are ready to say farewell to the year's activities and take a break. The Ramsey Jaycee Women are winding down after a busy year but we are, by no means, quitting for the summer. Our annual bloodmobile has been moved to Mayor June. We have our family picnic in August giving our husbands and children a chance to socialize together. The old and new officers for 1981"82 will soon be getting together to form our plan of action. We welcome any input from you, the community, as our purpose is foremost to serve the citizens of Ramsey. We will soon be selling tins and spice shakers to raise money for the Alexandra House, a shelter for battered women in Anoka County. The tins are filled with popcorn and the spice shakers can be refilled with salt, pepper, etc. Please support us in this endeavor. _ One of our highlights this past year has been to install three new members, Joanne Scannell, Donella Petro and Connie Quanrude. They certainly have been an asset to our group. We welcome them.
