'-.

.....~:~~

Winter is coming. . .I'm sorry to
say and with winter comes snow
plowing. Please, please remember to
keep your cars and garbage cans off
the streets and right-of-ways so the
plows can clean the streets. Weare
asking that you keep the garbage
cans at least three feet from the edge
of the road way to avoid the plow
hitting them. It takes time to plow
around cars and garbage cans and
the speed at which your street may be
plowed may depend entirely upon
how many obstructions they have had
to encounter.
The Ramsey Street Department
thanks you for your coiltinued
cooperation.
CITY OF RAMSEY
ELECTION RESULTS.
The response from the residents of
Ramsey were simply fantastic. What would you do? Call
the police, ambulance? Sure. But then
your child starts turning blue and you
get scared. Where are the police?
What's taking them so long? This
type of medical emergency may not
happen to you, but if it did ask
yourself one question--Do I have my
house numbers on and are they
visable from the street? The above
incident did actually happen and the
police were delayed by searching the
area for a house number. Out of five
houses on the block, only one had
house numbers that were clearly
visible from the street. The outcome
had a happy ending, the child started
breathing on his own before the
police arrived. But, if the child had
not started breating again, it might
have been fatal. The brain can die in
four to six minutes without oxygen.
We urge all residents to place
house numbers on their house so they
are clearly visible from the street.
Have the numbers at least 6" tall and
of a reflectorized material preferably
not on the garage door as they cannot
be seen when the door is up. We also
urge residents to place the numbers
on the house even though they have
them on their mailbox. Sometimes
the numbers are hard to read on a
mailb~x, expecially if there are two or
more In a row.
The Ramsey City Ordinance
request house numbers on all
residences, but we realize there may
be circumstances when you don't
have the numbers on for a good
reason, such as painting or
remodeling.

6

The Ramsey Police Department
has been conducting an ongoing
Burglary Seminar program for the
benefit of the citizens of Ramsey.
However, the response has been
poor. We are willing to help all
residents make their home a more
secure and safe place to live. We
conduct informal seminars which
show residents how a burglary is
committed and what they can do to
thwart such an attempt.
We also promote Operation ID,
which is a program whereby
residents mark their property with a
number so that the items can be
easily traced by law enforcement
agencies anywhere in the country.
There is an organization that has
come into Minnesota that sells this
service to the public. We urge people
to use Operation ID, which is free and
offered by the Police Department.
We provide information on burglar
alarms, locks, and other hardware to
secure your house.
These seminars are conducted at
the Ramsey Municipal Center, or if
you choose, right in your
neighborhood. These seminars are
free and a public service of the
Ramsey Police Department.
Take a look around your house and
you will realize what you have to
loose if a burglar gets in. Burglars
are not fussy about what they take
but are specially interested in audio
equipment, tools, cash, jewelry, guns.
and TV's.
