<br />- --- ~ - <br /> <br /> <br />'RAM"SEV '~C,OMM'U'NI1Y SCHOOL ,;, <br /> <br /> <br />SUMMER PROGRAM <br /> <br />BASEBALL <br /> <br />".%, _.f - <br /> <br />"PLA Y BALL!", was the cry on June 11th at <br />Ramsey Com muni ty School; and play ball they <br />did! Over 120 youngsters joined in the Summer <br />Baseban Program this year. The program is open <br />to boys and girls ages 6-13 and is set up to teach <br />basic skills of baseball and give youngsters some '. <br />game experience as wen. Cubs and' Tuffies <br />(grades K-2) practice twice a week and play <br />games at Sunny Acres Park in Anoka on Fridays. <br />Pee Wees and Ponies (grades 3-6) practice two <br />days a week and play games two days a week <br />against other area schools~ Pee. Wees and Ponies <br />also playa toumament during the last week of <br />the program. Trophies are awarded to the <br />toumament winners. <br /> <br />The Community School Baseball Program <br />emphasizes participation and skill development <br />ra ther than winning or losing. Each child is <br />given a chance to leam the game of baseball and <br />have fun playing and meeting other children. <br /> <br />These and other summer activities are offered <br />through District 11's Community Education <br />Department and funded by the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />PLA YGROUND <br /> <br />In addition to the baseball program, an After- <br />noon Playground Program is offered dUring the <br />Summer at Ramsey Community School. <br /> <br />This playground program consists of special field <br />trips and'events for youngsters in grades K-6. <br />This year has featured a trip to the Science <br />Museum of Minnesota, a trip to Murphy's Landing <br />near Shakopee, a Track and Field Day and a <br />Camival at George Green Park in Anoka. The <br />program is offered Monday thru Thursday in the <br />afternoon and is open to anyone living in the <br />City of Ramsey in grades K-6. <br /> <br />HELP WANTED <br /> <br />Applications are now being taken for the position <br />of Community School Aide at Ramsey <br />Community School. Applicants must have a high <br />school diploma and provide own transportation. <br />Position includes on site supervision of evening <br />activities at the school. Appr.oximately 15-20 <br />hours per week. Can 427-9350 to obtain <br />application fQrffls. <br /> <br />TWINS GAME <br /> <br />Over 100 Ramsey Area Kids, Moms and Dads <br />were among the 22,000 plus fans at Metropolitan <br />Stadium on Park and Recreation day, June 28th. <br />The fans saw the Twins lose an exciting game 6- <br />5 in ten innings. All had fun watching our Twins <br />play and consuming hot dogs, frosty malts, <br />peanuts and crackerjacks. It was a great day for <br />all at the Met. <br /> <br />UTILE SCHOOL ~ <br /> <br />This summer more than 50 pre-schoolers are <br />attending Ramsey Community School's Little <br />School Program. The program is for 3, 4, and 5 <br />year olds, Monday thru Thursday mornings and <br />f ea tures an hour and a half of learning <br />experience ranging from filmstrips and songs to <br />craft projects and group games and activities. <br /> <br />TEEN SOFTBALL <br /> <br />This year's Teen Slo-Pitch Softball team will be <br />shooting for first place in the Tournament on <br />July 27th at John Ward Park. About 15 area <br />teens make up the team which is part of a <br />summer league offered by District 11's <br />Com munity Education Department. <br /> <br />ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />ATTEND <br />MULTI-STATE CONFERENCE <br /> <br />Madden's Resort near Brainerd was the site of <br />the annual Com munity Education Multi-State <br />Conference. This year five members of the <br />Ramsey Com muni ty School Advisory Council <br />were in attendance to pick up some pointers and <br />share ideas on advisory council participation and <br />community education. States represented at the <br />conference are South Dakota, North Dakota, <br />Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. This year Joan <br />Thunell, Rose Drake, Jean Schlueter and Jim and <br />Myma Str~schein were in attendance from the <br />Ramsey Area. Ramsey's Com muni ty School <br />Advisory Council meets monthly to provide <br />citizen input into the Community Education <br />Program at Ramsey School. These meetings are <br />open to the public. If you would like more <br />information, please contact the Community <br />School Office at 427-9350. The next meeting is <br />scheduled for August 28, at Ramsey School, 7:00 <br />P.M. <br />
