WHO WANTS A VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT? The City is presently reexamining the fire protection being provided for the residents, and the possibility of establishing a volunteer department is being included in this study. Residents interested in serving as a Volunteer Fireman are asked to contact City HaH at 427-1410 with your name, address, and phone number so you may be contacted abouta meeting. A REMINDER. . . . Building Permits Needed - - J!~~~ Are you planning to build an addition to your home, build a garage or finish your basement? Don't forget you do need a building permit before you can start. Also, if you plan to hire the work done, be sure the une you hire is a licensed contractor. Becoming licensed is a very simple process and it is for your protection as well as theirs. If you are comtemplating an addition and have any questions on whether a particular contractor is licensed, please do not hesitate to call the City Hall. BURNING PERMITS REQUIRED Due to changes in both State and Local Laws permitted burning has been drastically reduced in Ramsey as well as numerous other communities, and absolutely no burning is allowed without a permit from one of the City's Fire Wardens. Notice of all Public Hearings are printed in Anoka County UNION and SHOPPER. Also, reports on the City Council meetings and other Ramsey information presently . are appearing in the UNION on the Friday follOWing the meeting. .... A WARNING TO RAMSEY o RESIDENTS. . . o o The City Hall has' had an increased number of calls from concerned residents on people attempting to sell goods door to door. You should be concerned as at present these people are in violation of the City's ordinance. The City has an ordinance prohibiting people from selling door to door unless they first become licensed to sell in your City. (They are more commonly known as peddlers or solicitors.) If someone comes to your home attempting to sell you goods (such as books, vacuum cleaners, cosmetic goods, cleaning supplies, etc.) ask first to see their license. If they do not have one remind them of the ordinance and send them on their way. Lic~nses must be carried with them at all times. This however, does not include any person selling or attempting to sell in behalf of a bona fide charitable, rei igious, civic educational or political organization; Y~u can prevent a peddler or solicitor from coming onto your premises by placing a placard at least 3'12 inches long and 3'12 inches wide near the usual entrance stating "PEDDLERS AND SOLICITORS PROHIBITED". We do not know until a resident calls when peddlers and solicitors are out attempting to sell. You are our eyes and only you can -help us stop these people. Please help us get these people licensed. CITY GUN ORDINANCE NOTICE 1 With the hunting season just around the corner, w.e feel there is a need to inform the citizens of Ramsey of the gun ordinance (City Ordinance No. 110.02). First of all, hunting is permitted in accordance with the laws of the State of Minnesota. However, shotguns with no larger than size 4 shot is the only type of firearm permitted to be discharged in any area of the. City. (Sorry, no bow and arrow for hunting purposes is allowed in Ramsey.) You must not be within 1500 feet of any residence or structure. The City is increasing in population at a fantastic rate every year and open space is getting increasingly harder to find. You must also have written permission from the owner of the land on which you intend to hunt. Please, please do adhere to these rules. They are made for all of us and are for everyones protection. The most horrifying feeling is to receive a call from a resident stating that someone is shooting in the lot next to theirs and has just shot a small child playing in the same area. The innocent are the ones to always get hurt.
