Fax: 763.427.5543 <br />www.cityoiramsey.com <br />• A flyway barrier at least six (6) feet in height shall shield any part of a property line that is within 25 feet <br />of a hive. The flyway barrier shall consist of 100% opaque fencing, dense, year-round (coniferous) <br />vegetation, existing structures, or combination thereof, and shall extend at least 25 feet beyond the hive. <br />• Colonies shall be maintained in moveable frame hives with adequate space and management techniques <br />to prevent overcrowding and swarming. <br />• In any instance in which a colony exhibits unusually aggressive characteristics by stinging or attempting <br />to sting without due provocation or exhibits an unusual disposition towards swarming, it shall be the duty <br />of the beekeeper to requeen the colony. Queens shall be selected from stock bred for gentleness and non - <br />swarming characteristics. <br />• The application for a zoning permit shall contain a sketch plan of the premises where the bee hives will be <br />maintained. The sketch plan shall provide sufficient detail to demonstrate compliance with the standards <br />of this section. <br />• The number of allowed hives shall be based on property size: <br />Lot Size <br />0.25 acres or less <br />0.25-0.99 acres <br />1.00-1.99 acres <br />2.00-3.99 acres <br />4 acres or larger <br />(Up to 5 frame Nucleus <br />Number of Hives <br />Up to 4 hives <br />Up to 8 hives <br />Up to 20 hives <br />Up to 40 hives <br />Over 40 hives <br />colonies'do riot have'quantity limits.) <br />General Reauirements of Permits/Licenses: <br />• Permits and licenses shall be valid without renewal provided the applicant colnpIieswith the terms of the <br />permit or license. Permits and licenses may not be transferred fipm one person to another? or one property <br />to another. <br />• Permits or licenses may be revoked by the City Council with a public hearing under the following <br />circumstances: <br />o Any violation of Chapter i 0 of Ramsey City Code <br />o If the animal(s) constitutes a danger or nuisance as determined by Chatter I ()or Chapter 30 of <br />Ramsey City Code <br />o Material misstatement or misrepresentation in application for license or renewal thereof <br />o Cruel or inhumane treatment of the animal(s) by any person <br />o Failure to keep the licensee's premises in an orderly, aesthetically pleasing manner <br />o Failure to comply with the terms of the license <br />Animals that do not require a license or permit include domestic and non -domestic animals addressed in Chapter. <br />0 of Ramsey City Code.
