CASE # 13
•
REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff
Background:
The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 and discussed the following
three cases:
CITIZEN INPUT
Mr. Hess was present on behalf of his neighborhood in the vicinity of 142nd Avenue and Waco
Street. This intersection was recently marked as a location for the installation of a streetlight as
directed by the City Council through the Priority Streetlight Fund. Typically streetlights
installed with monies from this fund are a cobra head style of luminaire light. Mr. Hess and his
neighbors have indicated they would prefer that the traditionaire style of light be installed to be
more in conformance with the nature of the neighborhood; they feel it would be more appealing.
The traditionaire style light provides slightly less light on the roadway and a little more reflective
light on lawns in the surrounding areas. The installation is scheduled for tomorrow; staff will
contact Connexus in the morning and direct them on whether to install the luminaire style light
or the traditionaire style light based on the direction of the Committee.
• Consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to proceed with the traditionaire style streetlight
at the intersection of 142nd Avenue and Waco Street as requested by the neighborhood.
Case #1 Consider Traffic Control Changes on Alpine Drive at CSAR 83 and CSAH
56
Background:
Anoka Highway Department recommended signage changes to the intersections of Alpine
Drive/CSAH 83 and Alpine Drive/CSAH 56. The primary changes associated with this new
traffic control plan for these two intersections include the following:
(a) Placing a double set of STOP signs on the City street approaches; with a standard 36
inch sign on the left side and an oversized 48 inch sign on the right; and including Cross
Traffic Does Not Stop tags beneath the STOP signs.
(b) Installing a double set of symbol style STOP AHEAD signs on both sides of the City
street approaches. In the case of eastbound Alpine boulevard approaching Ramsey
Boulevard this will be a replacement of a word style STOP AHEAD sign. These STOP
AHEAD signs will be placed at the approach distances recommended in the Uniform
Manual on Traffic Control Devices in Minnesota.
• Anoka County indicated that the changes described in (a) above were to be made by the County
Highway Department during the week of November 7, 2006.
