CASE # i
UPGRADES TO FIRE STATION #2 (OLD CITY HALL)
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief
Background:
With the move of all administrative and police functions to the new municipal center, some on-
going issues remain to be discussed with the existing buildings. Staff has generated a list of items
that require attention to continue to utilize the buildings for a period of time until a new fire
station is built.
Below is a list that staff feels is the highest priorities for a short (2-5 year) stay in the buildings:
• Re-keying Buildings staff would like to have all the main entrances to the fire station
buildings (including station # 1 and the old police building) keyed the same. Currently the
"B" key opens some of the doors and the security of this key is suspect.
• HVAC System Altered with most of the old city hall not being used, some minor
altering to the current system could keep the utility costs as minimal as possible.
• Turnout Gear Move existing turnout gear storage has been in a close proximity to the
vehicles in the apparatus bay. Staff is suggesting to open the wall between the apparatus
bay and the current training room and relocate the turnout gear in the training room.
• Removing wall between current lunch room and training room with the additional
FF's and the move of turnout gear staff is recommending to remove this wall and expand
the turnout gear area. The "Senior's" area can be used for small training events or the old
police area for larger sessions.
• Garage Door Upgrades on Old Police Bldg staff recommends these doors be equipped
with transmitters to allow keyless entry during events. (This $900 item is being
completed the week of December 11)
With the limited time to prepare this case, staff was unable to included estimates for each item.
Those will be brought to the meeting along with diagrams of the building showing the areas
being upgraded.
Council may remember that an analysis was made of the building for maintenance and
improvement needs. The list in this case only includes those items that will be contracted to
complete. City's maintenance staff will be utilized to complete some of the other issues such as
irrigation and landscaping needs.
Funding Source:
Staff is recommending using the Equipment replacement fund.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends Council approve the level of upgrades and authorize the work to be done per
estimates provided.
