vacation leave, holidays, and compensatory time off count as time worked as per the Personnel <br />Policy. <br />5.5 Payroll Deductions <br />Certain deductions from earnings, such as federal and state income taxes and social security <br />taxes, are required by law. These deductions will be identified on the direct deposit vouchers. <br />The amount of these required deductions may change since they are affected by changes in the <br />amount earned, and in the case of income tax, by changes in the number of dependents claimed. <br />Monies earned during a two (2)-week pay period cannot be divided into two payroll checks. <br />Employees should contact Human Resources with any specific questions. <br />5.6 Meal Breaks Periods and Rest PeriodsBreaks <br />When working under co it' m whore a break period is pi. o icable, all hourly employees arc <br />entitled to two (2) 15 iTjute braakg with eery per eight (8) hour shift at times designated by the <br />supervisor. Mo3t omployees also receive a thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period during each <br />eight hour work day. Employees working greator than four hours but laas than eight hours are <br />entitled to one (1) 20 minute br ak. <br />Fa <br />Meal Breaks and Rest Periods <br />A raid rest break of at least fifteen minutes or enough time to utilize the nearest convenient <br />restroom (whichever is longer) is allowed within each four consecutive hours of work. Effective <br />January 1, 2026, an unpaid thirty -minute lunch period is provided when an employee works six <br />or more consecutive hours. Non-exempt employees are expected to use these breaks as intended <br />and will not be permitted to adjust work start time, end time, or lunch time by saving these <br />breaks. The lunch period will be paid in instances where an employee is not completely relieved <br />of work duties. <br />Employees working in city buildings will normally take their break at the place provided for that <br />purpose in each building. Employees working out-of-doors will noiiiially take their break at the <br />location of their work. <br />Employees whose duties involve traveling throughout the city may stop along the assigned route <br />at a restaurant or other public accommodation for their fifteen -minute break. Exceptions must be <br />approved by the supervisor or city administrator. <br />Departments with unique job or coverage requirements may have additional rules. issued by the <br />supervisor and subject to approval of the city administrator. on the use of meal breaks and rest <br />periods. <br />26 <br />
