entitled to return to work in the same position and at the same rate of pay they received before <br />commencing the leave. <br />Group insurance coverage will remain available while the employee is on leave under the <br />Pregnancy and Parenting Leave Act; however, the employee will be responsible for the full <br />premium unless otherwise provided in this policy (i.e., if the leave also qualifies under FMLA). <br />For employees on an FMLA absence, the employer contributions toward insurance benefits will <br />continue during the FMLA leave period. <br />6.10 School Conference and Activities Leave <br />Employees may take up to 16 hours of unpaid leave during any 12-month period to attend school <br />conferences or classroom activities related to their child (under 18 or under 20 and still attending <br />secondary school), provided the conference or classroom activities cannot be scheduled during <br />non -work hours. If the leave cannot be scheduled during non -work hours and the need for the <br />leave is foreseeable, the employee must provide reasonable prior notice and make a reasonable <br />effort to schedule the leave to avoid unduly disrupting City operations. Employees may choose <br />to use vacation leave for this absence but are not required to do so. <br />6.11 Jury Duty or Witness Duty <br />Any employee who is required to serve as a juror or subpoenaed as a witness in court for job - <br />related purposes will be granted a leave of absence with pay while serving in such a capacity. <br />However, employees cannot receive more than their normal take-home pay when employer -paid <br />leave supplements jury duty pay. Jury duty pay, excluding transportation reimbursements, must <br />be remitted to the City within 30 days of receipt from the judicial agency. <br />If employees are excused from jury duty or serving as a witness during their regular working <br />hours, employees are expected to return to work if practicable. <br />A copy of the summons shall be forwarded to Human Resources. <br />6.12 Funeral Leave <br />Employees may take up to 24 hours of funeral leave per occurrence, up to twice annually (a <br />maximum of 48 hours per calendar year), for the death of an immediate family member. Funeral <br />leave is not chargeable against any accrued vacation leave, sick leave, or compensatory time off. <br />All funeral leave for a particular occurrence must be taken within five (5) calendar days from <br />start to finish. <br />43 <br />
