CASE #4
REVEIW MASTER TRAIL PLAN -TRAIL DESCRIPTION ELEMENT
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor '
Background:.
As the Commission is aware, the Master Trail Plan (MTP) is nearly complete. Remaining is the
Individual Trail Descriptions, the insertion of photos and-few minor elements. The timing of the
completion of this project will coincide with the beginning of Comprehensive Plan preparation -
which is conducted every 10 years (as~required by Metropolitan Council). The MTP may then
be incorporated by reference within this document, and therefore portions, like the actual Park
and Trail Map, may be updated periodically. This has value as the map is not a static planning
- tool.
Observations:
The purpose of this case is for~the Commission to receive one draft Trail Description so as to
provide comment on its Content; before the remaining nine Trail Descriptions are completed.
Community Development and Engineering staff is also conducting this review. This collective
analysis shall be used to provide the framework for the organization of Section 3, Individual
Trail Descriptions.
Earlier Commission members were provided a photocopied draft MTP, which may be helpful to
consult - to place the `Elmcrest to Central Park Trail' description in context. If another copy is
.needed, please let staff know. Staff requests comment on what maybe extraneous, or what may
be missing from the text, as well as readability or other content issues. Attached is the draft text.
Commission Action:
Provide recommendations on any element of the draft trail description.
Reviewed by:
Director of Public Works/Principal Engineer
Civil Engineer II
P&R: 2/8/07
39
