Th ors on a an o ka c ounty m n . ov <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br />Anoka County Bike to Work Week is Back May 11-15 <br />All commuters in Anoka County are welcome to participate in Bike to Work Week May <br />11-15. Bike to Work Week is a simple, energizing, and fun way to try a new commute to work. <br />Participants are encouraged to ride a bike one day to work or all week. No special gear is needed, <br />just a bike and a helmet. <br />Skipping traffic, managing health, and saving money on gas are a few of the benefits of <br />biking for transportation. Pre -pandemic, the average Twin Cities resident spent about 52 hours per <br />year stuck in traffic. Biking and other related exercise can also help to manage stress, anxiety, and <br />depression. <br />"Biking has to many benefits, and we're proud to support events that encourage safe riding <br />during Bike Month," said Commissioner John Heinrich, Lead Commissioner on Anoka County's <br />Transportation Committee. "With more than 85 miles of beautiful trails, Anoka County is a great <br />place to get out and ride." <br />Bicyclists are permitted to bike on sidewalks except within central business districts. <br />Biking on sidewalks is prohibited in downtown Anoka, but bikers may still bike on shared -use <br />paths or on roads/streets. For most places in Anoka County, sidewalk cycling is permitted. <br />Bicyclists should also do an "ABC" check before they leave. Check the air, brakes, and chain to <br />ensure your bike is in working order. National Bike Month is a celebration of cycling held annually <br />in May and sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. <br />In 2025, nearly 250 bikers participated in Bike to Work Week from more than 20 <br />businesses.
