There are also paid-on-call command officers
and firefighters. The officer positions include two (2) Assistant Chiefs, two (2) Captains,
four (4) Lieutenants and one (1) Training Officer. The total number of staff in the fire
department is currently at 49. This was accomplished by the recent hire of 14 new
firefighters including seven for an expansion into Bums planned for early 2008. The
major areas of responsibility for the Fire Department include responding to emergencies
dealing with both fire and rescue, public education in schools and day cares, and
performing fire code inspections of local businesses for adherence to adopted fire codes.

2006 Annual Report
-12-
