• 0 • Anoka County Sheriffs Office Regional Forensic Lab .By: James Way, Police Chief Background: Consent # ' City Staff has received a letter from Anoka County Sheriff Bruce Andersohn requesting support to move forward with the process of constructing a new Public Safety facility for the Sheriff's Department. As part of the building process, the Sheriff's Department has gained support from the Anoka County Board of Commissioners to construct a regionally based Forensic Crime Laboratory. The Anoka County Sheriff s Department is joined in this part of the project by the Sherburne and Wright County Sheriff s Office's and their respective County Boards. Very soon, the Sheriffs Department will bring forward to the State Legislature, a request for a single appropriation to help with the construction and equipment costs for the Forensic Lab portion of the facility. The Sheriffs Department is asking for two things with regard to support. First, a letter of support from Ramsey's Police Chief — which has been done - and adoption of a resolution showing City Council's support, which is attached to this Consent Case Sheet. City Council support is an important element of the legislative packet. Funding: No City of Ramsey funding is requested. Staff Recommendation: Staff is recommending Council adopt the resolution in support of the construction of a Regional Forensic Crime Laboratory in Anoka County and to support the County's request for a Single Appropriation from the Sate of Minnesota to assist with construction costs of the facility. Council action: Motion to adopt Resolution #07- 01 -XXX supporting construction of a Regional Forensic Crime Laboratory in Anoka County and a Request for a Single Appropriation from the State of Minnesota to assist with construction costs.
