4 2000 FALL REeyeLING REpORT COMPOST SITES & CHRISTMAS TREE REeyeLING The compost sites will be open until November 30, 2000, weather permitting. Christmas trees will be collected at the Bunl<er Hills site the first two weel<ends after New Years Day. January 6th - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. January 7th - 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. January 13th - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. January 14th - 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. CHIMNEY MAINTENANeE Many residents of Ramsey bum wood during the winter. Last spring we cleaned the ashes out of the stove leaving it ready for winter, or is it? First let's checl< the stove itself. Lool< at the outside, are there any cracl<s? Any discoloration? Now the inside, are the bricl<s cracl<ed and crumbling? How is the grate, will it l<eep the wood from rolling out onto the floor? Moving up, when was the chimney cleaned? If you cannot remember, have it cleaned. How old is it? If you do not lmow, have the lining checl<ed. If doing this yourself, be careful; roofs this time of year become very slippery. As you prepare your home for winter, have the furnace checl<ed and cleaned as well. This preventive maintenance, along with the other suggestions above, is critical to preventing fires in the home. The 2000 Spring and Fall Recycling Days were a great success. Below is a summary of tonnage recycled at the City's recycling day events. Ramsey Residents have recycled 1,056.88 tons of material through the curbside recycling program from January 1,2000 - September 30,2000. A grand total of 1,093.91 tons of material has been recycled by Ramsey Residents through curbside recycling and Spring and Fall recycling days. This year the goal for Ramsey Residents is to recycle 1582 tons of recyclable materials. We are at 70% of our goal to recycle material by December 31, 2000. Please consider ways to maximize the effectiveness of the curbside recycling program in your household, and City staff welcomes your suggestions for improving our program in the future. If you have any questions please call Ramsey City Hall at 427-1410. RINK ATTENDANTS NEEDED The City of Ramsey is seel<ing applicants for the part-time seasonal positions ofRinl< attendant. Applicants must be at least 16 years old for the temporary position. Worl< begins approximately December 15,2000, and lasts approximately 10 weel<s. Rate of pay is $7.50 to $9.50 per hour, depending on previous worl< experience. Non-Holiday Hours of Operation: Weel<days 3:30 - 9:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. ifneeded) Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. (two shifts) Sundays 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. During Christmas vacation, the rinl<s will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Applications can be picl<ed up at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 N owthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey. Applications will be received until November 15,2000. There cannot be a crisis next week.
