5
RAMSEY WANTS YOU!

. A'7~"
a, l, , 1
rll r~~ ;
!I~t ff}l:'
~
The Public Works Department will be doing their semi-annual flushing of
watermains and hydrants beginning Monday, April 10th through April 21 st. Please
be aware that this flushing, while it is necessary, will create a disturbance in the
system and may cause your water to be discolored. Although the water may be
discolored, it is fit for human consumption but it may stain clothes that are being
washed. To alleviate this problem, you may want to avoid washing clothes during
this time or if that's not an option, fill your washer with water and check on its clarity
before adding your clothes. We appreciate your patience and regret any
inconvenience that this may cause.

SPRING W ATERMAIN
FLUSHING IN APRIL

ROAD RESTRICTIONS

Have you ever wondered why weight limit restrictions go into effect in the
spring, why they are necessary, and how they affect you?

Springtime is a critical period for roads. Soils and base materials are wet
and in a weakened state during and immediately following the frost leaving the
ground. In order to prevent excessive roadway damage and protect the city's
investment it is important to place road restrictions when they are needed most, at
the beginning of the thaw.
The City of Ramsey follows guidelines set by Mn/DOT for starting road
restrictions. Mn/DOT bases their start date on existing conditions plus a 3-day
weather forecast. This year road restrictions went into effect on February 25, and
are scheduled to end on April 21. All county and town roads are automatically
posted at 5- Ton Axle Limit, unless posted otherwise or changed by local ordinance.
The city of Ramsey does not offer permits to exceed the posted limit
What impact this has on the average homeowner varies. If you are planning
a major landscaping project you may need to have materials delivered in several
smaller loads, to meet the weight limit. For people that have septic tanks some of
the larger pump trucks will not be able to conform to the posted weight. It's a good
idea to ask your supplier or contractor if they will be mal(ing an extra trip because of
the weight limit. An extra trip may result in higher costs to you.
If you have further questions about road restrictions please contact the Public
Works Department at 427-8254 or on the Web at ci.ramsey.mn.us

1

DOLLARS INTO SENSE CLASS

Anoka County Extension Service Staff and Dollar Work Volunteers will
present a free Dollars Into Sense Class on April 18th, 10:30 a.m. and again at 7:00
p.m. at the Northtown Library. To register, call the University of Minnesota Extension
Service, Anoka County, at 763-755-1280 by April 14th. Classes will cover budgeting
and address credit issues, tracl(ing expenses, making a spending plan, goal setting
and how to get help.

A noted American
playwright, Henrick Isbsen, once said
that. "A community is lil(e a ship;
everyone ought to be prepared to
take the helm." The City of Ramsey
is lool(ing for resident who are
interested in participating in the
development and governance of their
community. There are currently two
(2) seats open on the Economic
Development Authority (EDA); one
(1) opening with the Planning
Commission; and four (4) openings
on the Charter Commission.
People often tall( about
wanting to get involved with their local
government but fear that they don't
have what it tal(es. Longfellow said,
"No [one] is so poor as to have
nothing worth giving." The City
needs residents who have an interest
in their community and who are
willing to step forward to fill these
commission vacancies. Nothing
more than an interest in the
community and the ability to give
some time in attending monthly
meetings are required. This is an
excellent way to meet other residents
and to contribute in a very meaningful
way to your community.
If you are interested but
have questions, an "Administrator's
Report" featuring the City
Administrator, the Planning
Commission Chair, and the EDA
Chair was taped and is being aired
on QCTV, Channel 16. This video
provides a great deal of information
about the functions of the City's
Boards and Commissions. You may
also call City Hall at 427 -1410.
In order to be considered for
a seat on any of these commissions,
please submit a letter of Interest to
the City Administrator, City Hall,
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW, Ramsey,
MN 55303, by April 28, 2000.
