CITY NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, VOLUME 16, No.6

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2001

Tuesday, August 7th 2001, marl<ed the fourth
celebration of National Night Out in the City of Ramsey.
Although the temperature was as high as 99 degrees, it
didn't effect the success of our day long celebration to
"give neighborhood crime and drugs a going away
party."
The day began at the Ramsey Fire Station where
an estimated 100 people attended various scheduled events
beginning with a very successful car seat clinic sponsored
by Community First National Bank of Ramsey. Expert
technicians inspected 42 child safety restraints and found
only three (3) were installed properly. The clinic gave
parents a chance to asl< experts specific questions about
their car seats, learn how to properly install their seats in
their vehicles to safely transport their children.
The Ramsey Fire Department gave three
demonstrations on fire extinguishers and fire safety for
children. STAR dogs were on site and representatives
were present to answer questions and show residents how
the dogs are able to track for search and rescue. McGruff
was also on site during the entire event handing out balloons
and sticl<ers. LeTourneau's Super Valu donated FREE
ice cream for everyone in attendance.
Evening events began at 3 :00 pm with a l<icl<-off
party at our senior apartment complex and contin~ed
through the night with 27 additional blocl< partIes
throughout the City of Ramsey. Police, Fire, McGruff and
city council members made stops at every registered party
in the City of Ramsey. A highlight of the evening was the
fire department cooling people offwhen they opened up
their hoses and sprayed the l<ids.
Thanl< you to everyone who participated in malcing
this day such an enjoyable event in the City of Ramsey.
Anyone interested in coordinating a National Night Out
event for 2002, please to contact Chandra Kreyer, Crime
Prevention Specialist at 763-427-6812.

NOTICED ANYTHING
NEW ON THE HORIZON LATELY?

Water Tower number #2 is on line! Ramsey's
newest water utility improvement was recently painted,
filled with water, passed all tests and is now storing water!
This 1.4 million-dollar project was an important addition
to the City, quadrupling the amount of water available for
domestic use and fire protection. The City's half million
gallon Tower # 1 can now receive exterior pressure
washing, minor repairs and repainting similar to the new
tower. This worl< will begin after Labor Day and should
be completed in early October.
Site improvements for the one and one half million
- gallon Tower #2 such as landscaping, driveway and
trail connections to Cottonwood Parl< are under way.
The tower site will in effect function as the entrance to
the 27 -acre Cottonwood Parl< as well as be an important
landmarl< for the City.
Other interesting facts about the new tower
include; Height - 165 feet. The diameter of the 'bowl'
is 90 feet. The tower tool< less than one year to actually
construct. The weight of the drinlcing water contained is
12,510,500 pounds or 6,255 tons! The letters are nearly
8' high and the phrase "The City of Ramsey" is 69' 6"
long.

For more information about Ramsey's Water
Utility call Marl< Boos at 763-427-8254.
