HUNTING SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. . . Even though we are still experiencing the dog days of summer, hunting season is really just around the corner. And so with that in mind, the following are some reminders about the use of guns and bows and arrows in the City of Ramsey. The City generally follows Minnesota State Statutes 97B.015, 97B.021 and 97B.025, which pertains to the instruction and the safe use offirearms. Any revisions to the Statutes are adopted by reference and every noted provision contained in the State statutes is made a part of the City Code. Generally, the discharge of a firearm in the City of Ramsey is prohibited. Residents interested in gun or bow hunting need to obtain a permit from the City of Ramsey Police Department. In addition to filing a written application, the applicant also needs to provide written permission from the property owner of the land where the applicant wants to hunt. Gun hunters need to also pay a $50 license fee at the time of submitting an application and the license will expire on December 31 of each year. Please review the following City Ordinances for additional information regarding gun and bow hunting. 5.07.07 Discharge of Firearms. The owner or tenant or persons having written authorization from the owner or tenant may upon the land of the owner or tenant, discharge firearms for the purpose of hunting wild game in accordance with the laws of the State of Minnesota. The discharge of a firearm cannot be within 1500 feet (500 yards) of any residence or other structure. 5.07.08 License to Carry Weapons. The Chief of Police of the City of Ramsey has the authority to grant to an applicant a license to carry concealed weapons and s/he has the authority to revol<e this type of license at any time. An application for a license shall be made to the ~ Chief of Police in writing and a payment of a $50 fee at the time of application. The license / will be issued by the City Administrator and signed by the Chief of Police and will state the name, age and residence of applicant.
