ENERGY
Your Community Energy Partner
(Ramsey, MN) Connexus Energy is the first electric cooperative in
Minnesota to reach the 100,000- customer mark.
Rick Newland, Connexus Energy CEO, says the cooperative has come a
long way since its beginning in 1937. "We started with 400 customers. Most of
those first customers never had electricity in their homes, and were willing to help
build holes for the distribution poles, in order to get connected."
Over the years, the development of the North Metro area has changed
Connexus Energy's customer base. Residential, and commercial and industrial
customers in urban areas, far outweigh the number of rural customers on Connexus
lines.
"Our customers' needs have also changed," says Newland. "Today, one
light bulb or electric outlet for an entire house is inconceivable. In the 21st century,
electricity is an integral part of our everyday lives, from heating and cooling, to
entertainment and computers. We rely on power for almost everything we do in
our homes, and Connexus Energy is there, providing reliable, cost - effective
electricity. And, as we grow, we will continue to focus on our customers and their
needs," says Newland.
It took Connexus Energy 64 years to reach the 100,000- customer
milestone. With changes in the electric industry, and the continued development
of the North Metro area, Newland expects the next milestone of 200,000 customers
will be achieved at a much quicker pace.
About Connexus Energy. Connexus Energy is the largest customer -
owned utility in Minnesota providing electricity, and related products and services
to over 100,000 homes and businesses in portions of Anoka, Chisago, Hennepin,
Isanti, Ramsey, Sherburne, and Washington counties. Additional information about
Connexus Energy is available online at www.connexusenergy.com.
