CITY NEWSLETTER ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT The Deputy City Clerk and Administration Services staff are busy preparing for the upcoming elections. This year, several elected offices are opening up at various governmental levels. Of course, it is a presidential election year but it is also an election year for three Ramsey councilmembers. The process for the local election begins with interested residents filing an affidavit of candidacy for election. This filing period runs from August 29, 2000 to September 12, 2000 and affidavits are filed at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is a $5.00 filing fee that is payable at the time you file an affidavit with the Deputy City Clerk. Take a moment to read the following public notices regarding the elections. NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE OF AFFIDAVITS OF CANDIDACY FOR ELECTION City of Ramsey County of Anoka State of Minnesota Notice is hereby given that the City of Ramsey will accept affidavits of candidacy for the Office of Mayor for a four -year term and two Councilmember -at -large seats, each for a four -year term. Such affidavits will be accepted from Tuesday, August 29, 2000, through Tuesday, September 12, 2000, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the City of Ramsey, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. A filing fee of $5.00 will be charged. NOTICE CITY OF RAMSY PUBLIC ACCURACY TEST The City of Ramsey vote - tabulating equipment for the Primary Election will be run Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., in the Council Chambers of the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota, to ascertain that the equipment will correctly count the votes for all offices, candidates and on all measures. Continued on Page 2 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2000, VOLUME 15, NO. 71' CITY HONORS THE PASSING OF ONE OF THEIR OWN At the August 8''' Council meeting, the City Council honored Leo Anderson for his dedication and commitment to the City of Ramsey. Leo passed away on July 21, 2000. While Leo and Susan resided in Blaine, he was served that community as a City Councilmember. Once they had moved to Ramsey, both Leo and Susan became active once again in local government. Leo joined the City of Ramsey Planning Commission in November 1998 and was named Chair January 1999. Leo lived his life to the fullest and according to Susan, it was quite varied. He served in the U.S. Air Force, loved to travel, had an interest in birds and valued community service. Leo's wife, Susan currently serves on the City Council. IN YOUR BACKYARD .. • The City NEEDS your ideas!!! We are looking for a new name for 153rd and 155t'' Avenues once the new connection between the two streets is constructed. The completed connection will create an east/west crosstown thoroughfare that will be a more direct route from one side of Ramsey to the other. This will be particularly helpful for emergency vehicles. So, the City is sponsoring a "Name That Street" contest. If you have an idea that is simply outstanding, please write it down on the 4 x 6 postcard with your name, address, and phone number and bring it with you to the Ramsey Happy Days Festival on Saturday, September 16, 2000. All entries will be reviewed by the City Council and the winning entry will be announced during a future Council meeting.
