8 <br />SNOWPLOWING <br />The winter season is fast approaching and we all know <br />what that means - Snowplowing! The Public Works Department <br />is responsible for clearing all city streets and municipal parking <br />lots. This equates to over 300 lane miles of roads. The Public <br />Works Department makes every attempt to avoid damage, but <br />because of the conditions encountered during plowing and the size <br />of the equipment used, it is sometimes difficult to judge where the <br />edge of the pavement ends, and where the grass begins. <br />The City retains an easement on the edge of the road for <br />snow storage purposes. When sod is damaged due to plowing in <br />this easement it will be repaired, in the spring, with black dirt and <br />grass seed. Irrigation systems, landscaping and plant materials <br />placed in the City's easement will not be repaired and are the <br />responsibility of the homeowner. <br />Several things can be done to diminish the chance of <br />damage to the easement near your home. <br />1) Place wooden lathe every 20 to 30 feet along the <br />boulevard to mark the road edge. <br />2) Pay special attention when staking comers and radiuses, <br />as they are difficult to judge after a snowfall <br />3) Check the condition of your mailbox. Is the main post <br />rotted? Is the box itself firmly secured to the post? Make <br />repairs now before the weather turns cold and the ground <br />is frozen. <br />If you have any questions about snowplowing, please <br />call Ramsey Public Works at (612) 427 -8254 <br />SNOWBIRDS GET <br />TAGGED AND TOWED <br />Remember not to park your motor vehicle on any City <br />street during a snowfall, or afterwards, until it is plowed. Vehicles <br />parked along the roadway cause the snowplows to go around them, <br />leaving unplowed areas. They also present a danger to plow drivers <br />when visibility is poor. These "snowbirds" are tagged and towed <br />at the owner's expense! Save yourself money and aggravation <br />while you help us provide for safe and efficient snowplowing <br />services. <br />ATTENTION <br />SNOWMOBILERS <br />IN ANOKA COUNTY: <br />Are you a member of your local snowmobile <br />club? You should be! Joining a club is not just an <br />excellent way to meet other snowmobilers in your area; <br />more importantly, participation in your local club can <br />positively affect the future of snowmobiling in your <br />community. In order to preserve our right to ride in this <br />area, we need to band together, we all know there is <br />strength in numbers. The Ramsey Snow -Rams are <br />always seeking new members to join our club. Our <br />club brings sledders of all ages together to enjoy and <br />promote the positive aspects of this sport that we love. <br />Throughout the year we are involved in various <br />activities including teaching snowmobile safety classes, <br />participating in the Anoka Halloween Parade, working <br />at Hay Days, and Adopt -a- Roadway clean -up. All club <br />members automatically receive a membership in <br />MnUSA, the state organization that is dedicated to <br />maintaining our rights as snowmobilers in Minnesota. <br />By joining our club, you are supporting snowmobiling in <br />your own community, as well as throughout the state. <br />With winter rapidly approaching, now is the time to <br />become a club member and make a difference! The <br />Snow -Rams meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of <br />each month at SuperBowl in Ramsey.
