RAMSEY LIONS
SERVING YOUR COMMUNITY
Lions are recognized worldwide for
service to the visually and hearing impaired.
Locally, the Ramsey Lions are known for our
service to numerous community and charitable
organizations, as well as, support for individuals in
difficult medical or family situations. Here are
some of the organizations and individuals that we
have contributed to in the last year:
Fire Department water rescue suits
Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts
ARC of Anoka
MN Special Olympics
College Scholarships (18 this past year)
Ramsey /Anoka /Elk River Area Schools
4H Clubs / 4H Camp
Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets
5M Hearing Foundation
5M7 Wellness Van
Camp Friendship
Melvin Jones Memorial (LCIF)
Camp New Hope
Ramsey Youth Athletics
Minnesota Lions Eye Bank
5M7 Hearing Dog Program
Lions Leader & Service Dog Program
American Diabetes Foundation
Ramsey Community Picnic
Eye examinations and glasses for needy children
Hearing aids for local children
Families with a seriously ill member
If you are interested in joining us in
community service, please contact the
Ramsey Lions Club at 763 - 441 -4649 or on the
internet at www.RamseyLions.org.
The Anoka Union is the City of Ramsey's
official newspaper and is published each Friday.
All official notices, meeting schedules and City
Council agendas are published in the Anoka Union
as required by City Charter and State Statutes.
OFFICIAL
NEWSPAPER
►,\I ►
iii I
7
NEW COUNCILMEMBERS FOR ZOOS
TODD CooK
Todd Cook is excited about his four -year term
as a new City Council member and feels that the new
Council will be a good one. One of his goals is to
improve the trust level among the City Council,
residents and staff and is looking to achieve smart
growth in Ramsey. Town Center, achieving a balance
of greenspace and recreational facilities, and a
Dayton- Ramsey bridge crossing are a few of the things he would like
to see accomplished.
Davin ELVIG
I wish to thank the voters in Ward #1 for
the opportunity to serve the City of Ramsey.
Balancing growth pressures and identifying proper
growth strategies along with their associated areas
is going to be some of Ramsey's most significant
challenges over the next several years. I'm looking
forward to working with both the new freshman
group of councilors along with the veteran councilors in an effort to
bring trust and respect back to the office of City Council. I'm very
optimistic that we have an excellent group of individual thinkers that
are truly passionate and concerned about our City. I thank you again
for this opportunity to serve.
AL PEARSON
Thank you to the residents of Ward 3 for
electing me to represent you for the next four years
on the Ramsey City Council. I am excited and looking
forward to the job. Ramsey has a number of key
issues facing it, including the development of the
Town Center. With the Center, the City has a chance
for something very special, which will be a real boost
for us. This project will provide jobs, goods and services, while increasing
our tax base. Ramsey is predicted to be one of the fastest growing
communities in the metro area, so how we handle the development is
very crucial. One of my goals is to have a friendly Council and City
staff who will work together with the residents as a team. Thank you
for this opportunity!
SARAH STROMMEN
Sarah Strommen, during her two -year term,
would like to see the residents involved in the City's
planning process at an earlier stage. She would also
like to see that the City Council considers the effects
developments will have on schools and existing
neighborhoods. She is excited to be a part of the
challenges facing the City, including the Town Center
project, which she feels is a good concept for mixed use.
There is little room left for wisdom when one is full of judgment. - Malcolm Hein
